  Resthaven Funeral Home was established by lifelong Sinton resident Yvonne Cantu-Moran in March 2007.  Yvonne graduated Sinton High School and Commonwealth College of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas.  She has worked extensively in the funeral industry since 1991.  Yvonne was employed as a Funeral Director/Embalmer by Allison Funeral Services in Liberty, Texas, Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas and as Manager at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.  Yvonne is the daughter of Guadalupe Cantu and the late Charlie Cantu. Yvonne and husband, Lee, have two daughters, Autumn and Brittany.

LongoriaPete Longoria, a Corpus Christi resident of 28 years, passed away, peacefully, Tuesday, February 19, 2008 after a brief illness. His family was at his side.

Pete was born to Pedro D. and Refugia Tobar Longoria on October 28, 1945 in Sinton, Texas.  He was 62 years old.

Pete was a well-respected and well-known insurance salesman employed by American National Insurance Company for 32 years. He was a three-time recipient of the “Executive Eagle”, American National’s top award, and a 27-time recipient of the “President’s Club Award”, an award presented to the company’s top salesman.  Pete was a member of the Army National Guard, a former Lion’s Club member, and a member of SS Cyril & Methodius Church.

Survivors include his wife: Melba Longoria of Corpus Christi; a son: Pedro III (Patricia) Longoria of Austin; two daughters: Veronica (Daniel) Espinoza and Velma (Marcos) Salinas, all of Corpus Christi; two sisters: Elena Longoria and Victoria (Manuel) Chica, all of Sinton; in-laws: Manuel and Maria Garza of Mathis; 7 granddaughters; 3 step-grandchildren.

Gonzales, George Z.

GonzalesGeorge Z. Gonzales, a lifelong resident of Sinton, Texas and former Pipe Grinder for H & K Construction for more than 20 years, passed away, peacefully, Friday, February 16, 2008, at his residence. His family was by his side.

George was born to Jose Benito and Guadalupe Zuniga Gonzales in Robstown, Texas on  May 29, 1937.  He was 70 years old.

Survivors include his wife: Blaza Gonzales of Sinton; five sons: Guillermo Gonzales and Jose Benito Gonzales, both of Sinton, George Gonzales, Jr. of  Austin, Gabriel R. (Lisha) Gonzales of Corpus Christi, Harvey R. (Esmeralda) Gonzales of Alice; three daughters: Gloria G. (Ben) Spencer of Huntsville, Guadalupe G. (Juan) Chapa of St. Paul, Juanita G. (Juan) DeLeon of Sinton; five brothers: Gilbert (Alicia) Gonzales and Guadalupe Gonzales, all of Sinton, Gabriel (Lourdes) Gonzales of Killeen, Jesus (Tracy) Gonzales of Odessa, Benito (Nelda) Gonzales of Austin; three sisters: Graciela (Henry) Castillo of Sinton, Geneva Rodriguez and Chela (Hector) DeLeon, of Corpus Christi; 19 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren;  numerous nieces and nephews.  George is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Willie Gonzales and Genaro Gonzales, sister Griselda Gonzales and grandsons Luke and Nathaniel Gonzales.

CandelarioRonnie Candelario, a former construction worker and lifelong resident of Sinton, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008. He was 44.

Ronnie had a love for life   He lived everyday like there was no tomorrow.  Ronnie will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. 

Survivors include his mother, Elisa Candelario; a son, Ronnie Candelario, Jr.; three daughters, Devin Candelario, Alexandria Candelario, and Mallory Candelario; one brother, Roland Candelario, and one grandson, Ronnie (Trey) Candelario, III, all of Sinton, Texas.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his father, Pedro Candelario, a sister, Estella Candelario, two brothers, Oscar and Peter Candelario and his grandmothers, Stella Davila and Cruz Garza.

Maldonado, Guadalupe Guadalupe “El Gallo” Maldonado, a former inspector in the oil field industry, passed away February 7, 2008. He was 37.

Survivors include a wife, Delia Serrano of Sinton; his father Manuel Maldonado, Jr., of Taft; his mother and stepfather, Aurora Maldonado and Martin Martinez, of Sinton; four sons, Justin Jacob Rodriguez, of Taft, Anthony Blanco, Mike Blanco, and Jacob Blanco; one daughter, Amanda Blanco, all of Sinton; four brothers, Oscar (Angelica) Maldonado, of Taft, Manuel Maldonado, III, Ruben (Lorenza) Maldonado, and Kevin (Anna) Maldonado, all of Sinton; five sisters, Jessica (Raymond) Zamora, of Portland, Tracey (Rudy) Fuentes, of Taft, Daisy Maldonado, Elsie Maldonado, and Betsy Maldonado, all of Sinton, and one grandchild, John Ray Chapa, of Sinton.

Guadalupe is preceded in death by a brother, Martin Anthony Maldonado, and his grandparents, Robert and Guadalupe Elizardo.

2007003_1.jpgAmelia G. Rodriguez, owner and manager of the San Patricio County Courthouse Snack Bar for eight years, passed away January 23, 2008. She was 77.
Amelia was born to Rafael and Isabel Gonzalez on July 11, 1930, in Driscoll, Texas. She lived most of her life in Sinton and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Sinton, Texas.
Survivors include a son, Jessie (Susan) Rodriguez of Sinton, Texas; a daughter, Isabel (Michael) Maldonado of Taft, Texas; two brothers, Alfredo (Elida) Gonzalez of Sinton, Texas, and Anselmo Gonzalez of Ennis, Texas; three sisters, Audelia Garcia, Angelita Sanchez and Anita (Juan) Molina, all of Sinton, Texas; six grandchildren, Susan Garcia, Phillip Maldonado, Michelle Maldonado, Rodney Rodriguez, Ravae Rodriguez and Rafael (R.D.) Rodriguez; eight great-grandchildren, Alyssa Garcia, Allison Garcia, Heaven Maldonado, Lorilie Maldonado, Jordan Maldonado, Brianna Aguirre, Danika Aguirre, and Taliyah Bess.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesus Rodriguez; a daughter, Yolanda Rodriguez; and a brother, Alfonso Gonzalez.
