  Resthaven Funeral Home was established by lifelong Sinton resident Yvonne Cantu-Moran in March 2007.  Yvonne graduated Sinton High School and Commonwealth College of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas.  She has worked extensively in the funeral industry since 1991.  Yvonne was employed as a Funeral Director/Embalmer by Allison Funeral Services in Liberty, Texas, Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas and as Manager at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.  Yvonne is the daughter of Guadalupe Cantu and the late Charlie Cantu. Yvonne and husband, Lee, have two daughters, Autumn and Brittany.

  Resthaven Funeral Home specializes in personal and dignified funeral services, offers a large selection of monuments and accepts pre-paid funeral arrangements made at other funeral homes.  Resthaven Funeral Home’s state-of-the-art facility assures your loved one’s final memory will be personal, memorable and lasting.  Look for future Resthaven Chapels in neighboring Odem and Taft.

Featherling, Sibyl Lou McMinnSibyl Lou McMinn Featherling of Papalote, Texas, went to be with Jesus on January 13, 2009.

Sibyl was born November 24, 1921 to Nina Mae Fisk McMinn and Oyer Lafayette McMinn in Jacksonville, Texas and raised in Tyler, Texas.

She and her mother moved to Harlingen, Texas where she met the love of her life, Bernard Francis (Bill) Featherling of Papalote, Texas.  Bill married “She” in Harlingen on December 20, 1948.  This began 60 years of experiencing life’s highs and lows living throughout Texas, New Mexico, Thailand, Viet-Nam and New Guinea.

A lifelong learner and fearless world traveler, she instilled in her children her sense of adventure for new opportunities, challenges, cultures and languages.  She always respected the cultures of the country she lived in and strived to learn their language and customs.

Sibyl leaves this world to join her parents and brothers, Oyer Elwayne (Jack) McMinn and Clayton Eugene McMinn, in heaven.

She will continue to watch over and love those she leaves behind: Bill, her husband, and children: Jerry Hamilton (Missy), Sinton, Texas; Rita F. Parker (Larry), Allen, Texas; Mike Featherling, Papalote, Texas and Chris Featherling (Cindy), Odem, Texas.  Grandchildren:  Sami Moss, Allen, Texas; Brian Moss (Karen), Rockwall, Texas; Patrick Featherling, Odem, Texas; Phillip Featherling (Eliza), Sandia, Texas; Jacque Parker, Santa Rosa, California; Satchel Hamilton, Sinton, Texas and Ronnie Featherling, Odem, Texas; Great Grandchildren: Garret, Quinten and Matthew Moss, Rockwall, Texas; Siblings: sister Louise Gober (Clinton), Tyler, Texas; brothers Fred Talmadge and Billy Wayne McMinn, Dallas, Texas; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews throughout Texas.

Guerrero, Angelina BenavidezAngelina Benavidez Guerrero was called home by the LORD on Monday, January 12, 2009. She was born on October 13, 1941 in Taft, Texas.

She enjoyed her many years of employment as office manager at Taft and Sinton hospitals since 1961 until her retirement. She was a loving, caring, beautiful person who will be dearly missed. Angelina was a seamstress and crafter who loved to gamble and enjoyed her novelas at the end of the day. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and also designed and made her own personal jewelry.

She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Adolfo Guerrero, of Corpus Christi, Texas; 3 sons, Gilbert (Veronica) Gonzales, III of San Antonio, Texas, Gabriel (Diana) Guerrero and Michael (Dolores) Guerrero, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; 4 daughters, Jo Ann (David) Sandoval of Taft, Texas, Cathy (Linda) Montes, Norma Guerrero (Valentin) and Florinda Guerrero, all of Corpus Christi, Texas. Angelina is also survived by her two wonderful sisters who made her transition to heaven more peaceful, Angelita (Crispin-deceased) Acosta of Cleveland, Texas and Angelmira (Ricardo) Capistran of Taft, Texas. She also leaves behind, 25 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Angelina is preceded in death by her parents Raul and Anita Benavidez, a grandson, Christopher Guerrero and two granddaughters, Alexandria and Desirae Rodriguez.

Villarreal, Matilde R.Matilde R. Villarreal, a homemaker, passed away December 30, 2008.  She was 74.  Mrs. Villarreal was born to Juan and Maria Rangel on February 24, 1934 in Victoria, Texas.  She was a former resident of Sinton before moving to Alvin, Texas 34 years ago.

Survivors include 3 sons:  Jose Villarreal and Lorenzo Villarreal of Alvin, Texas; Martin (Sheila) Villarreal of Sinton, Texas;  1 sister:  Maria Juanita Rangel Gonzales of Sinton, Texas;  11 grandchildren;  2 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Villarreal is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Villarreal.

Torres, Alan LouisAlan Louis Torres, 52, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, after a short bout with cancer.

He was born to Elizabeth Mary Munch and the late Louis Angel Torres January 31, 1956 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

Alan, a gifted Home Builder, improved the South Texas landscape through the numerous quality homes and businesses he constructed.  Parishioners at Odem Sacred Heart Church still enjoy Alan’s gift of renovating the local Catholic Church’s Sanctuary.  Alan was a passionate, loving person with a gentle heart.  His numerous nieces and nephews knew him as “Alpha” Uncle.

Alan is survived by his former wife and loving, dedicated caretaker, Lynda Torres of Odem, Texas, who was a lifetime friend to Alan; his mother, Liz Munch of Chicago, Illinois; siblings: Aaron, Louis, Elisa, Amanda and Ebony, all of Chicago, Illinois; former in-laws, Frank and Virginia Chapa of Odem, Texas; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. His father, Louis Torres, and grandmother, Mary Dickens, precede Alan in death.

Hernandez, Santos R.Mrs. Santos R. Hernandez, a homemaker, passed away November 25, 2008. She was 81.

Mrs. Hernandez was born to Esteban Rodriguez and Piedad Garza Rodriguez on October 22, 1927 in Sinton, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Sinton.

Survivors include her husband Jose Hernandez of Sinton, Texas; 5 sons, Raul (Maria) Hernandez of Houston, Texas, Joe (Diana) Hernandez, Roger (Gloria) Hernandez, Raymond (Mary) Hernandez, and Enrique Hernandez, all of Sinton, Texas; 2 daughters, Juanita (Augustine) Mendoza, Sr. of Taft, Texas, and Anna (Jimmy) Cordova of Victoria, Texas; a brother, Jose “Pepe” Rodriguez of  Flint, Michigan; 3 sisters, Maria Mata and Elida Gonzales, both of Sinton, Texas and Pascuala Ramirez of Tucson, Arizona; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by a son, Santiago “Jimmy” Hernandez; a daughter, Guadalupe Hernandez Gonzales; her parents, Esteban and Piedad Rodriguez; 2 brothers, Juan Rodriguez and Jesus Rodriguez, Sr.; 2 sisters, Julia Carrizales and Elena Gonzales.
