  Resthaven Funeral Home was established by lifelong Sinton resident Yvonne Cantu-Moran in March 2007.  Yvonne graduated Sinton High School and Commonwealth College of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas.  She has worked extensively in the funeral industry since 1991.  Yvonne was employed as a Funeral Director/Embalmer by Allison Funeral Services in Liberty, Texas, Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas and as Manager at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.  Yvonne is the daughter of Guadalupe Cantu and the late Charlie Cantu. Yvonne and husband, Lee, have two daughters, Autumn and Brittany.

Chapman, Alice JoAlice Jo Chapman, 69, of Odem, Texas was called home to meet her Lord and Savior on January 1, 2010.

Alice was born April 8, 1940, in Cooper, Kentucky to John and Dorothy Jones. She was a resident of Odem, Texas and former resident of Portland, Texas. She was previously employed by K-Mart as a retail manager.

She married Robert Chapman, the man she dearly loved. Together they had four sons; Gary Chapman (deceased); Robert (Melinda) Chapman, of Marion, IN, Dan (Elena) Chapman of Odem, Texas and Greg Chapman of Corpus Christi,Texas. Other survivors include great-grandchildren and the twelve grandchildren she dearly loved and adored: Daniel, Melissa, Julie, Lamar, Derek, Vickie, Greg Jr., Bobby Jack, Gary Jr., Aaron, Arik and Trish. Preceding in death is her husband Robert Chapman; her parents; a son Gary Chapman; three brothers and one sister.

Alice was a good and faithful servant.  She loved the Lord with all her heart, mind and soul.  She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Cobb, Terrell Blanton

Cobb, Terrell BlantonTerrell Blanton Cobb, of Portland, Texas, passed away December 30, 2009 at the age of 87.
He was born December 23, 1922 in Gonzales, Texas to Aquilla and Sara Cobb, and was raised in the Gonzales area.
After serving his country in the United States Army, Terrell began farming in the Sinton area.  He attended night school to learn about fertilizers, herbicides and irrigation.  He was a devoted and conscientious farmer for nearly 40 years.
Terrell was a giving person who was best known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.  Terrell is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Mildred, of Portland, Texas.
Terrell had a favorite poem that he learned in grade school and that he could still recite in his later years: "And if I should live to be the last leaf upon the tree; In the spring, let them smile, as I do now, at the old forsaken bough where I cling." (by Oliver Wendell Holmes).

Moya, Virginia SoteloVirginia Sotelo Moya, 82, passed away on December 20, 2009 at a nursing facility in Refugio, Texas with her family at her side.

Virginia was born January 11, 1927 in Tilden, Texas to Demetrio and Felipa Sotelo. She lived in Tilden and Pleasanton in her younger years and was a resident of Sinton the last 60 years. Virginia was a domestic worker and nanny for 25 years employed by the families of Jim and Edith Odem, Billy and Carol Sanders and David and Melva Odem.

Nanny was a loving mother and grandmother who devoted her time and energy to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren she dearly loved. She has left us memories and taught us life’s lessons that will always be cherished.  Nanny will forever live in our hearts.

Survivors include a daughter: Yolanda (Oscar)Casanova of Sinton, Texas; one sister: Trinidad (Jose) Rodriguez of Sinton, Texas; three

grandchildren: Karen Casanova Longoria, Kathryn (Albert) Gaitan and Gabriel (Vanessa) Casanova; six great-grandchildren: Dabney Gaitan,

Bryan Gaitan, Francheska Longoria, Kaela Casanova, Jorge Casanova and Lucas Gaitan.

Preceding in death are her parents; five brothers: Baldemar Moya, Otavio Moya, Genaro Moya, Vidal Moya and Rogelio Moya; two sisters: Alicia Fuentes and Beatrice Gonzales; and special friend, Rogelio DeLeon.

Aguirre, Angelita Angelita “Angie” Perez Aguirre, 46, a self-employed handbag vendor, passed away December 16, 2009.

Angie was born June 29, 1963 to Gilberto and Ramona Chapa Perez in Sinton, Texas.  She was a lifelong resident of Sinton, Texas and a Catholic.

Survivors include two daughters: Vanessa (Aceson) Gomez and Lillian (Chris) Vela, of Sinton, Texas; her parents: Gilberto and Ramona Perez of Sinton, Texas; two brothers: Gilbert (Esmeralda) Perez of Victoria, Texas and Chris Perez of Sinton, Texas; one sister: Anna Perez Ortiz of Sinton, Texas; nieces Yvette Garcia and Gabby Najera of Sinton, Texas; nephews Arturo Najera and Gabriel Najera of Sinton, Texas; 9 grandchildren; and numerous friends.

She is preceded in death by two sisters, Adelita and Anita Perez, and grandparents Ramon and Virginia Chapa.

Maldonado, Joe "Spider"

Maldonado, Joe Joe “Spider” Maldonado, 69, a welder formerly employed by Baker Marine 30 years, died December 14, 2009 with his family at his side in Austin, Texas.

Joe Maldonado was born November 16, 1940 to Antonio and Theresa Landin Maldonado in Sinton, Texas.  Spider lived most of his life in Sinton, Texas, and currently resided in Austin, Texas. He was a proud Sinton Pirate Fan who cheered the Pirates to victory every opportunity he got.  Spider even attended football games the 2009 season.

Survivors include two daughters:  Angie (John) Hawkins of New Mexico and Gwen Ann Maldonado of Austin, Texas; four brothers: Cipriano (Flora) Maldonado, Tony Maldonado and Freddy (Linda) Maldonado, all of Sinton, Texas and Raymond (Becky) Maldonado of Falfurrias, Texas; one sister: Selvia (Lupio) Morin of Sinton, Texas; three grandchildren: Kimberly Guckian, Kyle Smith and Katherine Smith; and the love of his life: Betty Carmona of Austin, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Louis Maldonado; and nephew Roland Maldonado.
