  Resthaven Funeral Home was established by lifelong Sinton resident Yvonne Cantu-Moran in March 2007.  Yvonne graduated Sinton High School and Commonwealth College of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas.  She has worked extensively in the funeral industry since 1991.  Yvonne was employed as a Funeral Director/Embalmer by Allison Funeral Services in Liberty, Texas, Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas and as Manager at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.  Yvonne is the daughter of Guadalupe Cantu and the late Charlie Cantu. Yvonne and husband, Lee, have two daughters, Autumn and Brittany.

Tijerina, RaulRaul Tijerina, a carpenter, passed away March 14, 2009. He was 20.

Raul was born April 27, 1988, in Taft, Texas, to Raul Gomez and Mary Jane Tijerina.

Survivors include a wife, Courtney Tijerina, of Sinton, Texas; a son, Israel Ray Tijerina of Sinton, Texas; two daughters, Madison Jo Pickens of Sinton, Texas and Starla Sherum of San Antonio, Texas; his parents, Mary Jane and Jose Lugo, of Sinton, Texas; six brothers, Ruben Gomez of Childress, Texas, Jacob Tijerina, George Tijerina, Adrian Lugo, Jose Lugo, Jr., all of Sinton, Texas, Dario (Marsha) Gomez of Ft. Irwing, CA.; three sisters, Brianna Tijerina, Dominga (Alfred) Olivarez and Rose Mary (DJ) Covington, all of Sinton, Texas; and a grandmother, Sylvia Tijerina of Sinton, Texas.

Preceding him in death are his father Raul Gomez; paternal grandparents, Angel and Dominga Gomez; and a maternal grandfather Santana Tijerina.

Davis, Audrey BurgessAudrey Burgess Davis went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2009. Audrey was born on April 6, 1926 in Taft, Texas.  She was the youngest child born to Charlie and Era (Hager) Burgess. She was raised and attended school in Taft before moving to Odem.
Audrey worked for for EH Green Motor Co. many years in Odem. She was active in the First Baptist Church in Odem. After retiring she moved to Clinton, OK to be near her children. While in Clinton, she was an active member of the Custer Ave. Baptist Church, and was a volunteer at the Mission Store. In 2006 she moved to Lubbock, Texas to be near her son.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Joe) Miller of Clinton, OK, and Phyllis (Claude) Haynes of Vero Beach, FL; a son, Horace (Virginia) Smith of Lubbock, Texas; five grandchildren who made her proud, Calvin Miller, Wanda Smith, Kevin Freeman, Keith Freeman, and Jennifer Wilson; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding Audrey in death are her parents; two brothers, Leland Burgess and Cletus Burgess; and a husband, Bud Davis.

Ladish, Leonard J.
Resthaven Obituaries

Ladish, Leonard J.Leonard J. Ladish, 70, achieved his lifelong goal today, March 3, 2009, and went to be with his Lord.  We were not ready for him to go, but seek comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved wife of 47 years, Ann Carolyn…our Mother…his best friend.

Leonard was born April 9, 1938 to John and Hilda Ladish in Goose Creek, Texas.  He spent most of his life in Taft, and moved to Sinton in 2006.

Leonard took great joy in his family, his church family and friends, and his two cherished grandchildren, Suzanne and Garth.  He loved piddling outdoors with his cows, and enjoyed his frequent trips to Halletsville where he rejuvenated his spirit.  Daddy never met a stranger, was generous and kind to everyone who crossed his path, and lived his life to serve the Lord and his church.  Leonard Ladish made his children proud to call him "Dad", and his grandchildren proud he was their "Papa".

Leonard’s many achievements include retiring as a Supervisor for Reynolds Metals Company where he was employed 47 years.  He was a former Board of Director who lobbied for the Taft Hospital; served in almost every position at First United Methodist Church in Taft; was the church Financial Secretary; He was active with the First United Methodist Church Resale Shop and First Light Learning Center, where he also served as board member.  Leonard enjoyed coaching Little League and was a member of the JC’s.

Leonard leaves behind a daughter, Sherwin (Robert) Fairly of Sinton, Texas; a son, Jeffrey Ladish of Taft, Texas; three sisters, Joan Graves of San Marcos, Texas, Annette (Edward) McCrumb of Halletsville, Texas and Margaret Perkins of Taft, Texas; two grandchildren, Suzanne D’Leigh and John Robert "Garth" Fairly; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Mary Garrett, Mrs. Helen Hill, Peggy and Joe Encinia, and Margie and John Colborn.

Preceding Leonard in death are his wife, Ann Carolyn Scalf Ladish, his parents, John and Hilda Ladish; and a brother-in-law, Charles Graves.

Gonzales, BeatriceBeatrice Gonzales passed away Friday, February 20, 2009, in a local hospital.  She was 84.

Beatrice was born December 6, 1924 to Demetrio and Felipa Segura Moya in Tilden, Texas.  She worked in the nursery at First United Methodist Church in Sinton for many years, and was a devoted homemaker.

Visitation will begin Sunday, February 22, 2009, 5:00 PM, at Resthaven Funeral Home.  A rosary will be recited Monday, February 23, 2009, 7:00 PM, at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 10:00 AM, at Sacred Heart Church in Sinton, Texas with Father Paul Rajareegam as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Eternal Rest Cemetery in Sinton, Texas.

Mrs. Gonzales is survived by three daughters:  Betty Jane (Domingo) Soliz, Mary Minto and Olga (Gilbert) Guzman, all of Sinton, Texas; two sisters:  Trinidad Rodriguez and Virginia Moya, both of Sinton, Texas; 6 Grandchildren: 3 Great-Grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.  Her husband, Sylvester Gonzales, her parents, one sister and five brothers precede Beatrice in death.

Pallbearers will be Randy Soliz, Michael Soliz, Shawn Minto, Joseph Guzman, Jonathan Guzman, Randy Soliz, Jr. and Ryan Soliz.

Boyls, Owen Clifton "Cliff"

Boyls, Owen Clifton Owen Clifton "Cliff" Boyls, a lifelong resident of Sinton and self-employed Ag Pilot 45 years, passed away Monday, February 16, 2009, in Houston, Texas.  He was 88.

Cliff was born July 26, 1920 to Ora Clifton and Ora Leona Sisk Boyls in Dallas, Texas.  He married Gladys Faye Ewing November 14, 1941 in Brady, Texas.

Cliff Boyls was in the US Army Air Corps and a veteran of World War II.  He was a member of the Confederate Air Force; a member of the Civil Air Patrol, a member of the Arial Applicator’s Association; a licensed A & E Mechanic; he owned and operated a GI Flight School in Taylor, Texas; he was a licensed instructor for helicopters, single engines and multi engines; Past Worshipful Master of Lodge #1012 in Sinton; and former Lion’s Club Member.

Few men, like Cliff Boyls, can be truly honored and remembered for being an extraordinary father and faithful husband.  He was a man of many successes, a few failures, and many adventures.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Gladys Boyls, of Sinton, Texas; two daughters: Saundra Boyls of Houston, Texas and Betty Sue (Clyde) McCarley of Brady, Texas; four sisters: Bett (John) Fortenberry and Caroline Pickett, all of Lyndale, Texas; Katy Maloney of Duncanville, Texas; Vera Hallmark of Richardson, Texas; sister-in-law: Vickie Boyls of Corpus Christi, Texas; 6 Grandchildren; 9 Great-Grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Ellen Ann Boyls, and a son, Owen Clifton Boyls, Jr., precede their father in death.
