2011002.jpgJohnny Joe Tovar, 34, passed away January 8, 2011. He was born in San Angelo, Texas on December 23, 1976 to Juan and Tomasita Serrano Tovar.

Johnny was very well known in the Corpus Christi music world for his drum playing talents - talents he learned at an early age from his father.  Johnny played in numerous bands, the latest being Mando y La Venganza as well as Los Primos. He had a passionate love for music, family and bar-b-queing. Johnny loved to laugh, make jokes, and share his childhood adventures.  He always had a smile on his face and knew how to brighten your day no matter what was going on.  He also participated in watchdogs at T. G. Allen Elementary (Fathers Protecting Schools) and coached little league baseball. 
Preceding in death are Johnny’s father Juan G. Tovar; grandfather Manuel Z. Tovar, and cousin Mark Trevino.  Survivors include his wife Antoinette Marie Tovar of Corpus Christi, TX; three children: Odyssie age 10, Hevean age 6, and Johnny Joe Jr. age 9, all of Corpus Christi, TX; his mother Tomasita Tovar of Sinton, TX; two sisters Adrianna Serrano of Corpus Christi, TX and Brenda Tovar of San Antonio, TX; stepmother Josie Martinez of Corpus Christi, TX; three stepbrothers: Frankie Cantu of Houston, TX, Leo Martinez and Andy Martinez, both of Corpus Christi, TX; stepsister Lorraine Martinez of Corpus Christi, TX; close cousin Gabriel Sanchez of Odem, TX; niece Marissa Mata of Sinton, TX; nephews Jeremiah Mata and Bryan Mata, both of Sinton, TX, Brandon Tovar and Alex Bornacelli Tovar, both of San Antonio, TX; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, January 12, 2011, 11:00 AM, at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton, TX. A rosary will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011, 7:00 PM, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Sinton, TX. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 14, 2011, 10:00 AM, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Sinton with Father Shaji Varghese as celebrant. Burial will follow at San Pedro Cemetery, Odem. Pallbearers are John Marino, Kris Garcia, Jose Garcia, Andres Bovadilla, Jr, John Roy Alvarez, Jr, and Ted Villalobos. Honorary pallbearer is Gabriel Sanchez.
