2011050_1.jpgCandido Vela Gonzales passed away peacefully at his residence in Skidmore, Texas on December 1, 2011 with his loving family by his side. He was 88 years old. Candido was born in Kingsville, Texas to Rafael and Teresa Vela Gonzales on December 15, 1922. Candido was a Supervisor employed by Champlin Refinery in Corpus Christi for more than 30 years before retiring.

Candido was a loving husband, father and grandfather who lived his life for Jesus. He lived his life by example and taught his children to love the Lord. Survivors include his wife, Josephine A. Gonzales of Skidmore, Texas; four sons: James Gonzales and Andy Gonzales (Anna), both of Corpus Christi, Texas, Candido Gonzales, Jr. of Austin, Texas and Roberto Gonzales (Elida) of Skidmore, Texas; five daughters: Mary Ann Hernandez of Houston, Texas, Melba Davila (Gilbert) of San Antonio, Texas, Rosie Gonzales of Corpus Christi, Texas, Naomi Adame of Skidmore, Texas and Martha G. Davila (Jaime) of Laredo, Texas; two brothers: Blas Gonzales of Houston, Texas and Arnulfo Gonzales of Kingsville, Texas; four sisters: Elida Canales of Corpus Christi, Texas, Maria delaRosa, Severa Fernandez and Irene Garcia, all of Houston, Texas; daughter-in-law Dalia Gonzales of Skidmore, Texas; 36 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding in death is his son David A. Gonzales.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 3, 2011, beginning at 12:00 P.M. followed by a 1:30 PM funeral service at First Baptist Church, Skidmore. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Skidmore.
