Guerra, Donaciano Martines “Chano”Donaciano Martines “Chano” Guerra, owner of Guerra’s Grocery store for more than 50 years, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2008. He was 79.

Mr. Guerra was born to Donaciano and Petra Guerra in Taft, Texas on February 8, 1929. A resident of Sinton since 1947, he served in the United States Army, was a Crusillista, a member of the Cristo Rey Society, and an altar boy as a young man. He was the owner of Guerra’s Grocery Store for more than 50 years. Mr. Guerra was formerly employed by the Ford Motor Company in Michigan.

Survivors include a daughter: Jacque (Cesar) Canales of Houston, Texas; a son: Gilbert (Irma) Guerra of Sinton, Texas; two brothers, Bonefacio M. (Rita) Guerra of Sinton, Texas and Juan M. Guerra of Taft, Texas; one sister, Ignacia Roldan of Corpus Christi, Texas; five grandchildren, Darren Cody DeAses, Valerie C. DeLeon and Austin Shane DeLeon, Nikki Guerra and Jennifer Guerra ; three great-grandchildren, Cameron A. DeAses, Aiden M. DeAses and Nathan R. DeAses; and former wife, Alicia Yglesias of Sinton, Texas.

Mr. Guerra is preceded in death by two brothers, Manuel Guerra and Pablo Guerra and a sister, Concepcion Arroyo.

A rosary was recited Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton, Texas. A funeral mass was celebrated August 19, 2008, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Father Shaji Varghese as celebrant. Burial followed at Eternal Rest Cemetery in Sinton, Texas.
