Rodriguez, Cpl. Johnathon Cpl. Johnathon “J.R.” Clinton Rodriguez, 21, went to be with the Lord Sunday, December 6, 2009, in Havelock, NC where he was stationed with the US Marine Corp. J.R. lived in Sinton most of his life, and spent his early years in Gregory, Texas. He was a 2006 graduate of Sinton High School and enlisted in the Marine Corp. May 7, 2007. He graduated from Recruit Training at Marine Corp. Recruit Depot in San Diego, California.  Cpl. Rodriguez spent a tour in Iraq and had orders to return for a second tour. He had been awarded the Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

J.R. was a cherished son, grandson, brother, nephew and friend.  He always made his family proud, and his very presence made this earth a better place simply because he was a part of it. His beautiful smile, his kind spirit, huge heart and the love for his family transformed the young boy into a real man.  We will never forget our beloved J.R., and will cling to the memories he has left us.

Cpl. Rodriguez is survived by his Mom and Dad: Victor and Rosa Rodriguez of Sinton, Texas; his parents: Cynthia (James) LaPree of Corpus Christi, Texas and Jerry Rodriguez of Sinton, Texas; three brothers: Cory Ryan Rodriguez and Christopher Antonio Rodriguez, both of Sinton, Texas, and Joshua Lerma of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister: Danielle Rose Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas; maternal grandparents: Jose and Olga Chapa of Gregory, Texas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visitation will begin Friday at 3:00 PM, and will continue Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton, Texas. A rosary will be held Sunday, 7:00 PM, at the funeral home.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 14, 2009, 10:00 AM, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Sinton, Texas with Father Shaji Varghese as celebrant.  Full Military Honors will be rendered at Eternal Rest Cemetery in Sinton, Texas.
