My tio,earliest memory I recall is when as a teensger he hired me in the summers to help him clean a motel he managed for his longtime employer Mr.Harmon who had a daighter named Patricia,Harmon.If I messed up he would ask me if I thought I was Patricia,Harmon.

I loved my tio,he was always respectful and protectful.If he saw me walking home he would pick me up with a scolding following.



1 cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon anise seeds
1cup water
(Boil until you can smell the cinnamon and the water turns a medium brown, then add anise seeds and simmer for 5 minutes)

For the Dough

5 lbs all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 1/2 cups sugar

3 lbs shortening or lard

1/2 cup tea ( add a tablespoon more at a time if to dry)

Topping Mixture

2cups sugar

2 tablespoons cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

Heat your oven to 350°F.
Cream shortening/lard & sugar then add tea in large bowl. Combine flour & baking powder on wax paper. Pour flour mixture into creamed shortening/lard mixture.

Combine well, then remove dough from the bowl and knead for about 15 seconds on a floured surface.

Divide the dough into 4 portions, and then roll a portion to a 1/4 inch thickness. Cut the cookies using a 2-inch diameter cookie cutter.

Place the cut cookies onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Continue rolling and cutting all the dough in the same manner. Bake the cookies for 12 to 15 minutes.

Combine the topping ingredients in a shallow dish and set aside.

Once the cookies are removed from the oven, allow them to cool on the cookie sheet for one to two minutes, then toss the warm cookies in the topping mixture, coating well.Patricia Harmon.

I don't know what to say.
Speedy was by far hands down my favorite customer when I worked at heb. He almost daily came an gave me a hug. And if I wasn't busy we would talk a bit about his life and his wife Wonderful smile and hugs will truly be missed
