The Honorable Michael E. Welborn, 69, of Aransas Pass, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2017, following a brief illness.

Mike was born on March 7, 1948, in Aransas Pass, Texas to parents Geneva and Thomas Olin Welborn, Jr.

A life-long resident of Aransas Pass, Mike treasured his hometown and thrived on all aspects that living on the water offered.

Mike married the love of his life, Laura, in 1973. Together they have one beloved daughter, the Honorable Elizabeth Welborn.

Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. As an aerographer’s mate, he was proud to have completed Operation Deep Freeze Winter Over in Antarctica. Mike was commissioned by the Governor of the State of Texas as an admiral in the Texas Navy.

Mike was a graduate of Aransas Pass High School, Texas A&I University, and received a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law.

He served honorably as the 36th Judicial District Judge, the 36th Judicial District Attorney, and Judge of the San Patricio County Court at Law.

Mike was a dedicated husband, a doting father, a proud brother, a loyal friend, a mentor, a community leader, and a life-long sailor.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a Rotarian, a founder of the Spirit of Aransas Pass, and a former trustee of Aransas Pass ISD.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Olin and Geneva Welborn.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Welborn, daughter Elizabeth Welborn, both of Aransas Pass, Texas; his brother, Reverend Ronal Welborn and wife, Darline, of Seguin, Texas; and several treasured cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visitation will be Friday, September 15, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Aransas Pass. The family will receive guests from 5 PM-7PM. A funeral service will be Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 2:00 PM at FUMC Aransas Pass with Bishop Janice Huie and Reverend Teresa Welborn officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie View Cemetery, Aransas Pass.

Mike was concerned with the community of Aransas Pass and its recovery from Hurricane Harvey. If inclined, non-perishable foods will be collected at the church to benefit the relief efforts. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Canvas for Cancer (5131 County Road 2047, Odem, TX, 78370).
