Portland – Israel Saenz Gonzales, Sr. passed away September 14, 2017.  He was 71.

Israel was born on December 6, 1939 in Taft, Texas to Ernesto and Amanda (Saenz) Gonzales.  He was a resident of Portland and a native of Taft.  Israel was a Grocery Manager at HEB and retired after 35 years of employment. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Preceding Israel in death are his parents and three brothers:  George Gonzales, Richard Gonzales and Eloy Gonzales.

Survivors include his wife: Estella (Pena) Gonzales of Gregory, Texas; son: Israel Gonzales, Jr. of Portland, Texas; daughters: Patsy Laferty (Tom) of Portland, Texas; Terry Gonzales of Gregory, Texas; Peggy Aguirre (Alex) of Portland, Texas and Tammy Gonzales of Portland, Texas; eight grandsons; brothers: Adrian Gonzales (Margaret) of Corpus Christi, Texas; David Gonzales (Olivia) of Taft, Texas; Adan Gonzales (Flora) of Taft, Texas; Javier Gonzales (Yvonne) of Taft, Texas; Raymundo Gonzales (Susanna) of Taft, Texas; sisters: Irene Castillo (Manuel) of Taft, Texas and Pauline Martinez (Ramon) of Taft, Texas. 

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. A rosary will be recited the same evening, 7:00 PM, at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 18, 10:00 AM, at Immaculate Conception Church, Taft. Burial will follow in Palms Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4335 CR 3567, Taft.
