Odem – Wilburn Kenneth Cunningham, age 70, passed away July 28, 2017.

Wilburn was born April 2, 1947 in Ballinger, Texas to Wilburn Kenneth and Dolores (Turck) Cunningham. He was the eldest of four children and attended Roy Miller High School. Ken married Patricia Mikulec in 1969 and made their home in Odem, Texas in 1994. He came from a family of homebuilders and eventually started building homes in and around Odem. Ken always had country music in his bones. He took voice and singing lessons and learned to write music. In 2000, Ken recorded in Nashville and Corpus Christi. He had many other co-writers and friends in Nashville.

He is preceded in death by his mentors, Merrill Lane of Rockport, Texas and Sam Neely of Corpus Christi.

Survivors include his wife: Patricia Ann (Mikulec) Cunningham of Odem, Texas; mother: Dolores Cunningham of Corpus Christi, Texas; son: Kenneth Ladd Cunningham of Odem, Texas; daughter: Sherry Lynn (Daymon) Rogers of Pflugerville, Texas; grandchildren: Joshua Kenneth Charles Bridges of Portland, Texas; Darianne Ray Rogers and Devon Rogers , both of Pflugerville, Texas; Colton Kenneth Cunningham of Odem, Texas and Miranda Kay Cunningham of Corpus Christ, Texas; brothers: Frank Cunningham (Linda) of Odem, Texas and David (Linda) Cunningham of Corpus Christi, Texas; sister: Sabra (Dale) Thompson of New Braunfels, Texas.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 1, 2017, 12:00 noon at Resthaven Funeral Home, Sinton. A private interment will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
