Welcome to the memorial page for

Lonnie Glasscock, III

December 3, 1943 ~ August 15, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

After a long and exhausting struggle with bibliomania Lonnie Glasscock, III passed away on August 15th, 2017. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on December 3, 1943, to Lonnie Jr. and Reanie Glasscock, then residents of Old San Patricio, Texas. He was an avid independent traveler for the last 57 years in Mexico, Europe, USA, Central America, Australia, Canada, Alaska, & Peru. He was a high school exchange student in Germany in ’60 - ‘61, hitchhiker, linguist in German, Italian, and Spanish, and a pilot rated to fly private single-engine fixed wing aircraft and commercial helicopters. In the mid-1960’s he served in the US Army in the USMLM, Soviet Forces East Germany, in Berlin and Potsdam.

Lonnie III was a constant reader, a farmer/rancher in Tennessee and Texas for 10 years, a country store and dancehall builder/operator (Willow Lake Farm) for 6 years, the happy husband of the late Nuccia Glasscock for 36 years, and the quietly proud father of Lonnie IV and Chloe’ for 49 and 47 years. As “Papa” and “Nonno” he dearly loved Lonnie IV and Chloe and his grandchildren, Reanie, Ella, Buddy, and Lonnie V.

In 1972 he helped re-incorporate San Patricio, Texas and had lived there over 50 years. Though apolitical he was the Mayor of San Patricio for over 30 years (15 terms) and a City Alderman for 12 years (6 terms) (“life drips with irony”), being on the San Patricio Board of Aldermen the last 45 years. In 1973 he helped create and operate the World Championship Rattlesnake Races for 25 years.

He designed, remodeled, built, and managed rural residential rentals for 39 years and was a real estate investor and developer for 46 years. One of his passions was long distance motorcycle travel, riding over 100,000 miles throughout the US, Mexico, Canada, and Alaska since 1963. He was a listener, a skeptic, an optimist, and a student of human nature, as well as being eclectic, curious, and mostly self-educated. In 2007 Lonnie III was lucky enough to find the last true love of his life in his wife, Lasche’ Ann Huffman Glasscock: “Ich liebe Dich, Sonnig Baer!” His ashes will be spread on Willow Lake Island in Old San Patricio and in Terlingua, Texas.

“At the end of the day we are what we have done.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to PeeWee's Pet Adoption, Inc., (361)-888-4141, in Lonnie Glasscock's memory.

Memorial services will be held on September 9 from 11:00am-12:00pm at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Hall at the corner of Main Street and Magnolia in Old San Patricio, Texas, 78368. Lunch will be served from 12:00pm-2:00pm.

Arrangements and care entrusted to Resthaven Funeral Home, Sinton.
