Taft – Maria “Adela” Torres Hernandez passed away on October 24, 2017.  She was 68.

Adela was born in Taft, Texas on June 11, 1949 to Edmundo and Olivia (Sanchez) Torres.  She was a lifelong resident of Taft, Texas and a homemaker.  Adela was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, which provided her unyielding strength to overcome any challenge or obstacle she encountered.  Her daily morning routine included sitting on her front porch praying the rosary while watching the birds gather at the food she placed for them.  She emulated a true servant’s heart, as experienced in her selfless nature and actions, in making you feel special and unconditionally loved. Following her mother’s example, she dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and her husband.

Adela is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband: Alfredo T. Hernandez of Taft, Texas; son: Arnoldo (Dorene) Benavidez, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; daughter:  Olivia B. (Benjamin) Garcia of San Antonio, Texas; brothers:  Edmundo (Lupita) Torres, Jr. of Taft, Texas and Eliseo (Nieves) Torres of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sisters: Guillerma (Salome) Medina of Odem, Texas; Amelia (Juan) Trevino of Sinton, Texas; and Emma Sophia (Corando) Alaniz of Alice, Texas; grandchildren: Edwardo Lewis Benavidez, Christopher Louis Garcia, Carina Felice Garcia, Serena Alana Benavidez, Clarissa Adela Garcia, Chloe Patricia Garcia and Baby Garcia (January 21, 2018.)

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, October 27, 2017 with a rosary recited at 7:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Sinton.  Family will receive visitors from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Taft on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Father Pete Stanley as celebrant.

Interment will be private.
