Dorothy Keng Hoskins

Dorothy Keng Hoskins, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 24, 2018.  She was born on April 28, 1930, to Emma and Charlie Keng in Giddings, Texas. After graduating from high school there in 1948, she met and married Norland Ray (Rooster) Hoskins in 1951, and they were married for 61 years before his death in 2015.  Dorothy and Norland lived in a variety of places before settling in the Mathis/Sinton area. She worked at various jobs along the way, including being the Giddings City Secretary, until she began working for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) in Sinton, Texas in 1962.  After her retirement in 1990, she and Norland traveled all over the United States and Canada looking for the best fishing holes, meeting and making lifelong friends along the way.  Dorothy was a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star having joined in 1956, and an avid crafter who enjoyed knitting, painting, jewelry making and quilting.

Preceding in death are her husband: Norland; her parents; and a brother: Robert (Sweet Pea) Keng.

Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law: James and Carolyn Keng of Giddings, Texas; a nephew: Wes Hoskins and wife Janie of Portland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton on Tuesday, February 27, from 5-7:00 p.m. A short Funeral Service will follow at 6:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be Wednesday, February 28, 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Bastrop, Texas.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Order of the Eastern Star or Driscoll Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Dorothy was a kindhearted and gentle person who will be missed. We are comforted knowing she is “strolling across heaven” with Norland.
