James Allan Gould, Lt. Col. Retired, US Army, 87 years old, died Tuesday, April 2, 2018 at home in Rockport surrounded by his loved ones.
Jim was born March 23, 1931 in Fairview, OK. He was a Vietnam Veteran. After 20 years of active duty he retired to Rockport in 1973 with his family and began a second career in the appliance business. He had a heart for service which he showed by helping neighbors, volunteering with the Aransas County EMS as an EMT, construction with Habitat for Humanity, working on FUMC mission reconstruction efforts after Hurricane Ike, building a bird watching gazebo for the Main Bird Club, transporting cancer patients to Corpus for chemo treatments, and many others. He loved the water and spent many years sailing the Gulf, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas. He was greatly loved and will be profoundly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carita; son Mitchell Gould (Marianne) of New Braunfels, TX; son Steven Gould (Laura Mixon-Gould) of Albuquerque, NM; daughter Christy Linsley (Keith) of Rockport, TX; daughter Terry Spang (John, deceased), of League City, TX; sister Ann Gould Weathers of Oklahoma City, OK; and brother Glen Gould (Jeannie) of Rockport, TX. Six grandchildren: Jason Gould (Casey) of Frisco, TX; Travis Fitzgold (Rev. Katy) of Austin, TX; Emma Gould and Carita Gould both of Albuquerque, NM; J.W. Ogle, PhD (Amber) of Livingston, TX; Anne Robbins (Randy) of San Antonio, TX; step grandson: Bob Spang (Jill) of Cypress, TX; and 10 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ellen Gould and brother, Ed Gould.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 801 E. Main St, in Downtown Rockport (corner of Live Oak and Main Street.)
Interment will follow in Cheyenne Valley near Fairview, Oklahoma at the Lone Star Cemetery on April 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
