Lorenza "Lencha" Martinez

Taft – Lorenza “Lencha” Martinez passed away peacefully on February 18, 2019. She was 83.

Lencha was born in Pleasanton, Texas on September 5, 1935 to Augustina (Montez) and Samuel Lopez. She was a resident of Taft, Texas for most of her life. Lencha was formerly employed with Taft ISD for more than 20 years and later with a Nursing Home in Aransas Pass. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Lencha will be missed by all who knew her.

Preceding in death is her husband: Jose “Tune” Martinez, Sr., daughters: Oralia Mata and Mary Ellena Perez; and grandson: Santos Santellana, Jr.

Survivors include sons: Jose Martinez, Jr. (Margaret) of Weslaco, Texas; Paulo Martinez (Gracie) of Corpus Christi, Texas; Jason Martinez (Ida) of Taft, Texas; daughters: Sara Santellana and Ludy Martinez (Israel) of Taft, Texas; sisters: Maria Nanez of Taft, Texas; 23 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 22, 2019, 2:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. A rosary will be held the same evening, 7:00 PM, at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 23, 2019, 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Taft with Father Pete Stanley as celebrant. Burial will follow in Taft Memorial Park Cemetery, Taft.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Perez, P.J. Martinez, Joey Martinez, J.J. Martinez, Carlos Mata, B.J. Martinez, Martin Perez and Joseph Martinez.
