Maria Elena Hinojosa

Taft – Maria Elena (Colin Lopez) Hinojosa passed away peacefully March 15, 2018 with her loving family by her side. She was 76.

Maria Elena was born December 9, 1941 in Rio Grande City, Texas to Irma (Colin) Lopez and Horacio Borjas Lopez. She was a resident of Taft, Texas for 46 years and former resident of Grand Prairie, Texas, California and Arizona. Maria Elena worked as the Head Dietician for Taft ISD almost 40 years. She was a devout Catholic and member of the Catholic Daughters America Association. Maria Elena was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Preceding in death are her parents: Horacio B. and Irma (Colin) Lopez; sisters: Idolina Ruiz and Joelda Trevino; and a brother: Horacio Lopez, Jr.

Survivors include her husband: Alberto Ayon Hinojosa of Taft, Texas; a son: Alberto Hinojosa (Alicia) of Martinez, CA; daughters: Tirsa Hinojosa of Corpus Christi, Texas; Carolina H. Garza and Melissa Hinojosa, both of Taft, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother: Juan Colin Lopez (Diana) of Rio Grande City, Texas; sisters: Imelda Lopez (Salvador) of Freer, Texas, Rosie Ramirez (David) and Sandra Lopez, all of Rio Grande City, Texas; and numerous extended family.

Visitation will begin Saturday, March 17, 2018, 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton. Visitation will continue Sunday, March 18, 2018, 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. A holy rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 19, 2017, 12:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Church in Taft with Father Pete Stanley officiating. Burial will follow, 2:00 PM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, Corpus Christi.

Pallbearers will be Alberto Garza, Jr., Adrian Garza, Anycce Garza, Antonio Hinojosa, Andrea Hinojosa and Javier Lopez.
