Albert “Bert” Howie passed away on May 26, 2025, one day after celebrating his 54th birthday. He spent his final birthday surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Bert is survived by his children: Megan (Jon Garland) and Dylan Howie, and their mother, Tish Allen; granddaughters: Rylee and Adalee Garland; his parents: Florence and Mike Howie; sister: Ella Alcala; sister-in-law: Miriam Orta-Howie; nephews: George and Andre Howie; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends he considered family.

 He is preceded in death by his brother: Daniel Howie.

Bert was a dedicated firefighter and paramedic whose legacy of service touched many communities. His distinguished career included service with Bexar County Company 4, Houston Fire Department, Aransas County EMS, Tri-County EMS, and Port Aransas Medical Services. He also served with fire and EMS departments in Manvel, Angleton, Odem, Aransas Pass, Sinton, and Mathis. Bert held leadership roles in several organizations, including serving as Fire Chief for the Rockport Volunteer Fire Department. He also served with the Ingleside Volunteer Fire Department and the Port Aransas Fire Department.

In addition to his work in emergency services, Bert contributed his skills as part of the first aid teams for Bechtel Engineering, the Houston Astros, and the Corpus Christi Hooks. A lifelong Houston Astros fan, he was deeply proud of his association with these organizations.

Bert will be remembered for his enormous heart, steady strength, radiant smile, and unwavering dedication to helping others. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched both in and out of uniform.

A memorial service to honor Bert’s life and service will be held at the Port Aransas Civic Center on Saturday June 7th at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive visitation Friday June 6th at the Port Aransas Civic Center from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Attendees at both events are encouraged to wear their favorite Astros or Texans attire, Fire and EMS personnel are encouraged to wear their class A uniforms to the services on Saturday.
