Swinney Switch - Alice Faye Burgin Childers, 77, passed away peacefully on Monday June 3, 2024 one day shy of her 58th Wedding anniversary to the love of her life, Gary Childers at their home on the River in Swinney Switch. Alice was full of life and never let anything stop her. She was a determined and a strong-minded person. Despite having polio at a young age and loosing use of her right arm that never stopped her. She sold insurance, was a teachers aid and sub in Taft and after retirement she volunteered in George West, she was the Baptist Church Secretary for 15 years and taught Sunday school in Taft, she was a School Board Member for Taft ISD. She enjoyed working in the yard, mowing and planting flowers. She enjoyed painting, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. Alice was the daughter of the late John Newton and Lora Oretta Burgin.
She is also preceded in death by her grandson: Tristan Allen Geffert; sisters: Martha Williams and Mary Tyra Jinnette.
She leaves behind her loving husband: Gary; son and daughter-in-law: John Wesley and Tammy Childers of Taft; daughter and son-in-law: Lora Lea and Gene Geffert of George West; granddaughter: Taylor Geffert of George West and grandson and his wife: Trevor and Mary Rabke of Weatherford. Brother: James (Barbara) Burgin; sister Nelda Wotipka; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Taft, 420 Green Ave, Taft Tx 78390. Visitation will start at 9 a.m. with the Celebration of Life at 10 a.m. followed with the graveside at Palms Memorial Garden, 4335 CR 3567, Taft. Family and Friends are invited back to their home at the River to enjoy “A little piece of heaven” as Alice called it Saturday evening after 6.
