Taft – Ava LaVerne Montgomery passed away December 20, 2021. She was 96.
Ava was born on November 16, 1925 in Sinton, Texas to Emma (McDaniel) and William Schmalstieg. She was a resident of Taft where she and her husband, Douglas, raised their children and made a home. Ava was employed by Taft ISD as Librarian for more than 20 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Ava was a member of the Borden Street Church of Christ in Sinton. She was a fabulous cook. Ava leaves many life’s lessons behind. She taxied her children (then grandchildren) everywhere they went. She was a constant presence at movie theatres and sporting events with the kids she enjoyed transporting. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Preceding in death are her husband: Douglas Montgomery; and parents: William and Emma Schmalstieg.
Survivors include her children: Barbara Grisham from Wallis, Texas; Mike Montgomery (Dolly) from Marble Falls, Texas; Monty Montgomery from Three Rivers, Texas; Mark Montgomery (Julia) from Austin, Texas; Betty Sanders (Jack) from Taft, Texas; 10 grandchildren: Dennis Grisham, Corey Montgomery (Courtney), Connor Montgomery (Emily), Heather Gilman, Chris Gilman (Diana), Sara, Luisa and Ethan Montgomery; Hannah and Madalyn Sanders; 4 great-grandchildren: D'laine Montgomery, Kyler Jack Montgomery, Maelee Montgomery, Brooky Sanders; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation will begin Monday, December 27, 2021, 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. A Graveside Service will follow the same day, 1:00 PM at Palms Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Taft/Portland. Burial will follow.
