Taft – Basilio H. Moreno passed away May 12, 2023. He was 84.
Bassie (as he was known affectionately by many) was born September 3, 1938 in Taft, Texas to Higinia (Hernandez) and Jose S. Moreno. He was a lifelong resident of Taft. Bassie was a veteran of the US Army. He was self-employed, owning and operating Bassie’s Auto Supply. Upon retirement, he was employed by San Patricio County as a Bailiff. Bassie enjoyed donating his time to the caretaking and beautification of Immaculate Conception Church’s grounds. He was a beloved husband of 56 years to his wife, Ida; and a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Jose and Higinia Moreno; brothers: Antonio Moreno, Ruben Moreno and Carlos Moreno; and a sister-in-law: Lupe V. Moreno.
Survivors include his wife: Ida Morin Moreno from Taft, Texas; daughters: Iris M. Moreno (Marcos) from Sinton, Texas; Loretta Moreno-Lopez (James) from San Antonio, Texas; Carla M. Miller (Dan) from Rockwall, Texas; Bessie Ann Sturgeon (Daryl) from Phoenix, AZ; 8 grandchildren: Brianna Moreno, Stephanie Moreno, Aaron Sturgeon, Gabriela Frances, Marcos Basilio Moreno, Luke Miller, Devin Sturgeon and Mason Lopez; 3 great-grandchildren: Karson Gonzalez, Christian Jardon and McKenzie Jardon; brothers: Loreto Moreno (Delfina) and Reynaldo Moreno, all from Taft, Texas; Rodolfo Moreno from Portland, Texas and Manuel Moreno (Odi) from Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters: Angelica Cuellar (Frank) from Corpus Christi, Texas; sister-in-law: Maria Anita G. Moreno from Taft, Texas; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation will begin Monday, May 15, 2023, 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Church in Taft, Texas. A Holy Rosary will be recited the same evening at 7:00 PM at the church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 16, 2023, 11:00 AM at the church. A Graveside Service will follow, 1:00 PM at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Sturgeon, Marcos Basilio Moreno, Luke Miller, Daniel Cuellar, Rey Moreno, Jr., and Roland Moreno. Honorary Pallbearers will be Devin Sturgeon, Christian Jardon, Mason Lopez and Karson Gonzalez.
The family would like to express their gratitude to his caregiver Joey Longoria, the staff of Harbor Hospice of Rockport and the office of Dr. Lee Sang.
