Odem – Billy Gray Carpenter passed away July 18, 2024. He was 95.
Billy was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on July 9, 1929 to Bertha Alma “Daisy” (Caraway) and Harvey O. Carpenter. He was a resident of Odem, and former resident of Corpus Christi. Billy lived (and loved) to fish. He would come home “wearing” oil after working long hours in the oil field. Billy enjoyed pitching horseshoes, washers and playing Mexican dominos. Above all, his greatest love was his family. He loved his church and his church family. Billy was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Preceding in death are his spouse of 54 years: Mary K (Toler) Carpenter; daughter: Beverly Davis; parents: Daisy and Harvey Carpenter; twin brother: Bobby Ray Carpenter; nephew: PFC Roger Valentine.
Survivors include his daughters: Brenda Klostermann from Calallen, Texas; Barbara Prather (Robert) from Universal City, Texas; Bonnie Morris (Ray) from Hutto, Texas; 9 grandchildren: Holly Asher, Brent Klostermann (Sandy), Jennifer Klostermann, Elizabeth Weaver (Justin), Mandy Benedick, Robert Prather (Gina), Billy Ray Morris (Andrea), Trevor Morris (Jessica) and Emily Morris; 14 great-grandchildren: Gavin Wilkinson, Carson Klostermann, Connor Klostermann, Cannon Klostermann, Grayson Weaver, Dylan Benedick (Emily von Dohlen), Jace Benedick, Liliana Morris, Eleanor Morris, Harper Morris, Charlotte Morris, Jalene Prather, Kaitlyn Prather and Steven Prather; 2 great-great grandchildren: Madelyn Wilkinson and Adalynn Prather; nephews: James Traweek, Jackie Traweek, Emmett "Buddy" Carpenter, Troy Carpenter and Eddie Lindsey; numerous nieces.
Visitation will begin Sunday, July 21, 2024, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. The Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 22, 2024, 10:30 AM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Odem.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Billy’s memory to Evergreen Cemetery, PO Box 392, Odem, Texas 78370 or the Men and Women’s Ministry at First Baptist Church, Odem.
The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice, the nurses, the volunteers and Chaplain Scott Ramey for the love and care extended their beloved Father. The family also wishes to thank everyone who lifted Billy and his family up in prayer.
