Taft - BillyJo Frank “BJ" Valdez, 43, passed away on September 12, 2021. He was born June 30, 1978 in Taft, Texas to Adolfo and Marie Valdez. He graduated from Taft High School in 1996. After many years of being together, he married his best friend, Christina Valdez, on April 18, 2015. He was employed by Axion Logistics in Gregory as a Warehouse Lead. He truly loved his job. He was a devout Catholic and member of Holy Family Church. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. He was an exceptional person with so much heart, love, and dedication to so many people.
BJ loved his daughters and started as a volunteer coach for his oldest daughter Clarissa when she was 4 years old. He was able to coach his younger daughter, Carolina, as well. He coached the Kickin’ Cuties, The Golden Girls, and GP United where his motto became “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop!” When Christina first told him, she volunteered him to be a coach, he didn't know how much he was going to love the organization. In 2012, he became a board member and served for 9 years. He worked diligently for the association and was able to touch many many lives and he did it with a smile that was contagious. You could always find him at the soccer field where he spent countless hours preparing the fields, speaking with coaches/parents, and making sure everything was good. He could never get enough of soccer. Soccer was life. He was a beacon of guidance, strength, and community for all the girls and their families. BJ also enjoyed going to watch his daughters play other sports and would say “it feels weird being in the stands and not coaching!”
When he wasn't at the soccer fields, he was with his family. They would spend time watching the Astros and Texans games and you could guarantee he would be decked out in his fan gear when it was game time. He loved to dance and crack jokes. He loved to barbecue. He loved to listen to Ramon Ayala, any other Spanish music, AC/DC, classic rock, and sit on the deck outside with Christina or his father-n-law Luis and just relax. Family was very important to him and he always wanted to make sure they were well taken care of. The bond he had with his “Weda” and his “Gorda” was unbreakable. He raised them both be tough and strong.
BJ is survived by his loving wife, Christina Valdez and their two beautiful daughters, Clarissa and Carolina. His brothers Adolfo "Jay" Valdez (Marie) and Andres Montemayor (Laura); sister Lydia M. Garza (Isaias); In-laws Luis and Cynthia Rodriguez, Sr; Brother In-Law Luis Rodriguez ,Jr. and Johnny Ray Rodriguez (Brianna); Aunts Rachal Crawley (Wyman) and Lucinda Sohn; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Adolfo and Marie Valdez; paternal grandparents Adolfo and Nicanora Valdez; and maternal grandparents Melquiades and Natividad Arguijo.
