Bobby Maberry Floerke passed away on December 24, 2020 after a long battle with Dementia He was born to Vernie and August Floerke, Jr. on January 1, 1933 in Taft, Texas.
As a young child, Bobby lived on the family farm graduating from Gregory High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball. He also attended Del Mar College, being a member of the football team. Serving his country, Bobby enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
On June 3, 1955, he married the love of his life, Norma Bennett, making their home in Taft, Texas. He began his working career as a plumber, later moving into farming, which he continued until retirement.
Bobby was an avid sportsman. He loved spending time at the deer lease, hunting with his family, as well as fishing the local area. This instilled a love for the outdoors in not only his children, but extended family. The Frio River was special to him. Many times, Bobby could be found playing dominoes in the river with his friends, making memories to last a lifetime. He also loved to garden. Later in life, one could find Bobby weeding, watering and just admiring the vegetables. No telling how many people were blessed to receive something from his garden.
There were numerous organizations that Bobby was involved with throughout his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Jaycees, Taft Rifle Club and Blackland Museum to name a few. He was a long-time member of the Midway Gin Board of Directors, serving in several positions. It is said of Bobby that he preferred to work in the background, making sure things ran smoothly. He was quiet, but when something needed to be done, he could make it happen.
But above all else, Bobby was a family man. He was Husband, Dad and Pops to them. He lovingly nursed Norma during her illness. He encouraged his sons’ love for farming, was his daughter’s hero and doted on all his grand and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Tim Floerke, grandson Corey Watson and brother Sam Floerke.
