Bruce Kirby Masterson, aged 64, departed this life suddenly from a heart attack on August 3, 2026. He was born in Mt. Kisco, NY at Westchester County Hospital to John Henry Kirby Masterson and Kathryn Lou Thurston Masterson on November 5, 1961, and was the fifth of their six children. Bruce was pre-deceased by his nephew, Aaron Allen Masterson in 1995, his father in 2007 and his mother in 2017. 

    Over the course of his life Bruce lived in Mt. Kisco and Chappaqua, NY,1961-1966 Richardson Texas, 1966 - 1971, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1971-1974 Vero Beach and Ft. Pierce, FL 1974 – 1986. In the late 1980's Bruce moved to Palm Beach, later Broward Counties and lived briefly to Aransas Pass, TX before moving back to Florida. He moved to Texas full-time in 2002. 

    Bruce graduated from Vero Beach High School with a GED in 1980. He attended several community colleges in Florida for technical training in photography & graphics. Bruce stayed with his sister Sara in Aransas Pass for about 2 years and worked locally before returning to Florida in the mid 80’s. Bruce was employed in the publishing and newspaper business from 1985 to 1995, working for various newspapers in Vero Beach, Fort Pierce, Stuart, and Palm Beach. In the late 1990's to 2002, Bruce worked for the publishing arm of a Fine Art Auction House photographing art to be sold at auction. During this time, Bruce worked as a caregiver for a quadriplegic friend for 6 years. 

    Bruce came to Coastal Bend of Texas in 2002 and lived in Corpus Christi and Flour Bluff, working as a telemarketer. He then moved to Aransas Pass to be with his parents, caring first for his father until his death in 2007 and his mother until 2016 before her passing in 2017.Bruce was employed at Domino’s in Ingleside, TX for the last 6 years as a driver and kitchen worker. 

    Bruce was known for his sharp wit, crazy sense of humor, a kind and giving heart and caring for others. He loved to read and study history, and he played and collected many video games. He struggled with his physical and mental health throughout his life. A lack of energy, dyslexia, and several addictions in his later years shortened his life. He will be missed by those who loved and cared about him.

    Bruce is survived by his siblings, Roger (Jay), Mary Liddle (Larry), Mark (Karen), Sara Williams (Jeff) and Dede Eshleman (Jamie). Bruce is also survived by his long-time partner Theodora Gipson and her sons Ian Guerin and Sterling Gipson.

     He is additionally survived by nieces and nephews Kristin Bevil (Patrick), Casey Liddle (Melissa), Amanda Masterson, Jessica Hale (Jamey) Jamie Holcombe, and Mary Grace Eshleman. Great Nieces and Nephews, Kira, Quinn & Xander Bevil, Rabecca, Emmet, Mark, Lena, and Zachery Masterson Williams, Sara Katey Thompson and Elwood Liddle plus 2 great-great Nieces, Katey and Evelyn.

    Those left to cherish his memory are thankful that despite his declining health, Bruce had a rich life with Theo, Ian, and Sterling with their many family activities, football games, and outings for his last 13 years.

   A memorial service honoring Bruce’s life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Following the services, Bruce’s cremated remains will be laid to rest alongside his parents at Lakewood Memorial Park in Henderson, Texas.
