Charles Allen Kirk Obituary

Charles Allen Kirk (“Chuck” to old friends/relatives, just “Kirk” to everyone else), was born in Farmington, Michigan, on August 27, 1937, to Charles Elmer Kirk and Elsena Nelson Kirk.  His teen years were spent living with his grandmother in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan, a great place for a boy to grow up. Some of his character came from her, as she wore a live fox around her neck and ran a blind pig during Prohibition. He enlisted in the Army at 17, serving in the 82nd Airborne and Signal Corps Division. After discharge, he began a career in radio as a DJ in Harlan, Kentucky, and leveraged his #1 ratings into jobs in various other locations, including Nashville, Detroit, Atlanta, Tulsa, Dallas, and Ft. Worth. An interest in little sailboats and a fiercely independent lifestyle then led him to the Texas coast, where he bought, refurbed, sailed and sold small sailboats for the last decades of his life. He died as he wished, peacefully and at home in Ingleside on the Bay, on November 10, 2025.

He was…unique. He definitely lived life on his own terms, not constrained by societal norms.  He loved little boats and sailing, educated himself by constantly reading books of all genres, and was a gifted storyteller, with lots of tales to tell. He didn’t suffer fools gladly, and was a classic curmudgeon (even when younger), but had a good heart underneath that exterior. Throughout their 38 years together, he and Pam shared many wonderful experiences - they swam with singing humpback whales off the Na Pali coast, traveled across the entire US, throughout Mexico, and to various European countries. Their last 10 years were spent splitting time between Colorado and Texas.

He is survived by Pamela Stokes, his love and partner; brother Bob (Sally) Kirk; sister Nancy Stevenson; half-brother Jim (Mabelle) Kirk; daughter Cheryl Cunningham, son Charles Kirk, daughters Natahsha Kirk and Narissa Bobo, as well as several grandchildren.

A relaxed and casual Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at their home, 345 Woodhaven Drive, Ingleside on the Bay. Drop in to chat with friends, tell stories and share memories. Refreshments will be provided.
