Christela was born on September 13, 1954 in Taft, Texas to Trinidad and Mary Felipe (Arredondo) Gonzales. She lived in Taft, Texas the past 2 years. She was a former resident of Indiana, Corpus Christi and Port Aransas. Christela worked as a housekeeper at the Island Hotel in Port Aransas.

Preceding in death is her daughter: Barbara Gage; parents: Trinidad and Mary Gonzales; brothers: Wally Gonzales and Silvestre Gonzales.

Survivors include her son: Leon Gage of Taft, Texas; daughter: Deborah Gonzales (Bernard) of Griffith, Indiana; grandchildren; Sonya, Rene, Anthony, Jessica, Anna, Brandon and Joseph; great-grandchildren: Christian, Neveaha, Emma, Asher, Avah, Aidan, Ariana, Alexander and Anthony; brother: Ramijio Gonzales (Sylvia Marquez) of Taft, Texas; sisters: Gloria Felan of Portland, Texas, Trinidad Gonzales (Juan Hernandez) of Taft, Texas, Mary Lou Escamilla of Taft, Texas, Josephine Rice of Portland, Texas and Virginia Gonzales of Corpus Christi, Texas.
