Cruz C. Flores, Sr.

Woodsboro – Cruz Cardona Flores, Sr. passed away on Sunday April 9,2023 with his loving family by his side. He was 80. Cruz was born on November 20, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Teodoro and Tomasita Flores, he was one of nine children. From the young age of 12, he began working to help take care of his younger siblings and mother, a duty he committed to all of the days of his life.

By the time he reached 18, he had made his way to Aransas Pass where he lived for most of his life working and eventually retiring as a shrimper. His decision to retire came immediately after being able to be home for the birth of his youngest daughter. Even though he had a deep love for Shrimping he always felt that it came with the sacrifice of not being able to see his children every day. It was at that precious moment in time that he knew he would never be away from them again. His loving, caring ways and kind-heart did not begin or end with his children but extended all the way through his entire family and to all his friends. He was a confidant to his sisters, a father to his nieces and nephews who were left without fathers at very young ages, a dear and special friend to many, and the most loving father, brother, husband, uncle and grandfather.

He was full of love & wisdom and had the most giving and kind soul.

He was the greatest blessing and gift given to his family, an honor to call him dad, uncle, brother, husband and grandpa.

He was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness for more than 45 years, he practiced what he preached, and was strong in his faith as a loyal servant of Jehovah God. 

The Patriarch of the Family, he was loyal, thoughtful, wise & strong and in his final moments brave and at peace with how he lived his life.

He led by example, never to be forgotten and a legacy in more ways than one.

He will live in the hearts of all who loved him for eternity.

He is preceded in death by his newborn son: Joshua Aaron Flores; parents: Teodoro & Tomasa Flores; brother: Teodoro Flores Jr; two sisters: Maria Flores Martinez and Sylvia Flores Galvan.

He is survived by his wife: Maria Flores; 5 children; son: Cruz Flores Jr; daughters: Olivia Shedd, Rosemary (Sam) Vega, Debbie (Ed) Olivier and Rachel (Steven) Amador; 16 grandchildren: Richard and Michael Huffman, Ashley and Patrick Shedd, Valentino and Eric Flores, Brittany and Courtney Figueroa, Christopher Vega, Kevin, Krystal and Kassie Staley, Constance and RJ Music and Steven Jr and Lauren Amador; 21 Great Grandchildren: 1 brother: Luis Hinojosa; 4 sisters: Rosita Davila, Olivia (Pablo) Mata, Janie (Wolf) Rangel and Tomasita Perez.

Visitation will begin Friday, April 14, 2023, 10:00 AM-9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Aransas Pass. Services will be held the same evening at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 15, 2023, 9:00 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Aransas Pass. A Funeral Service will follow the same morning at 11:00 AM.  We will proceed to his final resting place in Prairie View Cemetery, Aransas Pass, Texas.
