Daniel Tijerina Obituary

Taft – Daniel Lee Tijerina passed away September 4, 2021. He was 39.

Daniel was born on May 2, 1982 in Taft, Texas to Nancy (Morales) and Ricardo Tijerina, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Taft, a 2000 Greyhound graduate from Taft High School and a 2003 graduate of Del Mar College. Daniel was the beloved husband and best friend of Alicia M. Tijerina. They celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary on August 16, 2021. He was a loving father to Gavin Lee Tijerina aged 14, Natalie Danielle Tijerina aged 12 and Kaylee Marie Tijerina aged 9, all from Taft.  Daniel was the loving brother of Ricardo Tijerina (wife Chriselda Tijerina) from Yuma, AZ and sister Christina Easley (husband James Easley) from Taft. He is also survived by his grandmother: Georgia Sanchez from Edna, Texas; his paternal grandfather: Manuel Tijerina from Taft, Texas; and his in-laws: Geraldo and Gloria Serna from Edna, Texas.

Daniel is preceded in death by his father: Ricardo Tijerina, Sr.; father-in-law: Louis Sanchez; maternal grandparents: Bonifacio and Maria R. Morales; and paternal grandmother: Maria Tijerina.

Daniel obtained his associates of applied science degree in Electrical Engineering. In 2004, he began his career with American Electric Power (AEP) in Victoria, Texas as a Protection and Control Technician. In August of 2014, Daniel transferred to Corpus Christi with AEP as a Transmission Operator Sr. In February 2021, Daniel transferred out and began his last career as a Transmission Field Service Work Scheduler Sr. He spent a total of 17 years with AEP, a company he was proud to work for, and made life-long friendships throughout his whole career with his co-workers.

Daniel loved to go kayaking and fishing, even when at times he didn't bring any fish home. The reason only being because ALL the fish packed up their cars and decided to go out and vacation in other waters.  And even though, he would also lose half his tackle due to all the whales and sharks biting and tackling his bait, causing him to lose his fishing lines and gear in the process; Daniel still loved being on the water. Daniel, aka SGT SCREAM, also mastered the art of listening while playing his xbox with his friends. In the beginning, his wife would walk by and trip and accidently push the power button off. Minutes later, he mastered and conquered the art of listening while having his headset on. He was one of a kind gamer. To make sure his team online could hear him, he would talk loudly, and even yell, penetrating the walls and causing echos which scared the birds in the surrounding counties causing them to fly far away. He would always say he had the best neighbor, hands down. He would always know what the neighbor was cooking constantly, even learning her work schedule and knew when she was home. After some time, he tended to ask quite often what his wife would be making for breakfast/lunch/dinner. Eventually his wife would tell him to go to the neighbor’s house and see what she was making, and he would say, "ok, I’m walking over to Mom’s". He loved his mother beyond measure, and he is and always will be her “baby boy”.

Daniel is the definition of love. He was a family man who loved his wife, children and all his family. He was a perfect and a hard-working role model to his children and to all those around him.  He never judged, was always there to help when anyone was in need, was a volunteer in his community and a friend to everyone. His memory will live on in all those who love him, and he will be missed beyond measure.
