Demetrio R. Alvarez, Sr. passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025. He was 88.
Demetrio was born in Asherton, Texas on December 22, 1936 to Elena (Rios) and Trinidad Alvarez. Demetrio spent his life rooted in the community of Taft, Texas—a town he proudly called home.
A hardworking man, Demetrio built his career as a Heavy Equipment Operator, providing faithfully for his family. His life was defined by devotion: to his Catholic faith, to his family, and to his community. He was a Cursillisto, a Sacristan at Immaculate Conception Church and a dedicated Guadalupano. Known for his deep spirituality, Demetrio prayed often for others and lived his faith through service and compassion.
Demetrio was a pillar of strength and wisdom for his family. He was a loving husband, a nurturing father and a cherished grandfather—always ready with sound advice and a warm heart. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled and the love he gave so freely.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife and mother of his children: Sofia Elizondo Alvarez; his son: Richard E. Alvarez; his parents: Trinidad and Elena Alvarez; his in-laws: Marco and Dolores Elizondo; and his second wife: Maria Adame Alvarez.
Demetrio is survived by his children: Demetrio E. Alvarez, Jr. (Julia) from Taft, Texas; John Roy E. Alvarez, Sr. from Beeville, Texas; Mary Esther A. Salinas (Joe) from Gregory, Texas; Bernardo E. Alvarez from Taft, Texas; Ray E. Alvarez (Norma) from Taft, Texas; Melissa A. Cadriel (Rolando Jr.) from Gregory, Texas; and Jesus Alvarez (Kaye) from Corpus Christi, Texas. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory and teachings.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Sinton, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 10, 2025, 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Taft. Burial will follow in Lamas Memorial Park Cemetery in Taft.
Pallbearers will be Jesus Alvarez, Joshua Alvarez, Justin Alvarez, Richard Cadriel, Orlando Cadriel, Rolando Cadriel Jr. and Rolando Cadriel Salinas.
