Aransas Pass – Dennis James Holland passed away on September 2, 2025. He was 65.
Dennis was born April 10, 1960, in Lynwood, California, to Miner St. John and James Holland. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for over 22 years, achieving the rank of Hospital Corpsman Master Chief Petty Officer (HMCM) (SW/AW/AC). Throughout his distinguished career, he served as a Field Medical Service Technician, Surface Force Independent Duty Corpsman, and Instructor, with assignments that included overseas deployments and leadership positions across multiple commands.
Following his military retirement, Dennis continued his commitment to serving his country through an additional eight years of civilian service, completing a total of 30 years of dedicated service to the nation.
He earned numerous decorations and commendations, including the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (11 awards), Good Conduct Award (7 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), Fleet Marine Force Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, USCG Meritorious Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Southwest Asia Service Medal. His lifelong devotion reflected honor, courage, and a steady commitment to those he served alongside.
Dennis spent over 15 years at sea, serving aboard ships that took him across the world. He was known for his sharp wit, sense of humor, and knack for teaching those around him. A true Texan at heart, Dennis carried himself with quiet strength, humility, and deep love for his family. Dennis’s passing was a result of conditions connected to his service to our nation, a sacrifice made in continued devotion to the country he so proudly served.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Miner St. John and James Holland; and sisters, Ava Holland, Arethea Stayton, and Charlotte Holland.
Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Kathleen Holland of Aransas Pass, Texas; and daughter, Jessica Holland of Las Vegas, Nevada.
All services will be private. Dennis will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date, in recognition of his distinguished service and enduring legacy.
