Dora G. Aviles

Odem – Dora G. Aviles passed away peacefully on March 22, 2023 after battling a long illness. She was 80.

Dora was born in Dinero, Texas on May 23, 1942 to Marta (Gonzales) and Jesus P. Garcia. She was a lifelong resident of Odem, Texas. In her younger years, Dora worked as a manager at Sam Kane in Corpus Christi, Texas and at a Dry Cleaners in Corpus Christi. She also worked most of her life at Thornton’s Grocery Store in the meat market and bakery. Dora was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother sister, aunt and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her son: Leroy Rodriguez; parents: Jesus and Marta Garcia; sibling: Elia Garcia.

Dora is survived by her loving husband of 53 years: Mario C. Aviles, Sr. from Odem, Texas; sons: Jesse Hinojosa (Cindy) from Odem, Texas and Mario C. Aviles, Jr. (Brenda) from Odem, Texas; daughter-in-law: Sylvia Rodriguez from Odem, Texas; sisters: Manuela Cantu (Joe Garza) from Sinton, Texas, Olga Martinez (Erasmo) from Mathis, Texas and Lydia Lerma (Johnny) from Odem, Texas; brothers: Jesus “Jr” Garcia (Mary) from Odem, Texas and Ray Garcia (Diana) from Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren: Daphney Tovar (Jose), Delainey Longoria (Andy), Marty Cavazos (Nick), Mary “Issy” Schlunsen (Mikhail), Amanda Valverde (Mark), Brian Hinojosa, John Hinojosa, Kristine Aviles, Mia Bella Aviles, Luke Aviles and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin Sunday, March 26, 2023, 2:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. A Holy Rosary will be recited the same evening, 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 27, 2023, 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Odem. Burial will follow in San Pedro Cemetery, Odem.

Pallbearers will be: Brian Hinojosa, John Hinojosa, Luke Aviles, Samuel Schlunsen, Seth Longoria and Mark Valverde.
