Dorothy Ruth Arthur Mayo, 91, of Portland, Texas, passed away on May 16, 2022. She was born in Luling, Texas, on April 28, 1931, to Roach and Dorothy Arthur. Dorothy was the oldest of three daughters. Her sisters were Mary Ann and Joyce.
As a young girl, Dorothy Ruth and her family moved all over South Texas with Humble Oil Company, living in Humble camps. She graduated in 1948 from Taft High School, and was named Most Beautiful in her senior class. While in High School, she met the love of her life, Nathan (Corky) Elliott Mayo. They were married July 21, 1950.
Dorothy Ruth and Corky had three boys, Bill, Bob and Tom. They lived in various Texas cities, early in their marriage, including Taft, Pecos, and finally settling in Austin. Dorothy Ruth remained in Austin after Corky passed away in 2000, where she continued her love of playing tennis and stayed very active in several bridge clubs. She moved to Portland in 2011, where she lived until her passing.
As a faith-filled woman who loved God and His hand in her life, Dorothy Ruth could be found listening to Christian radio or television at all hours, day and night. She found enjoyment visiting her three sons and their families, along with her sisters, Mary Ann and Joyce. Dorothy Ruth was known for her beautiful smile and laughter. The last few years of her life she still found great enjoyment in a friendly game of poker or bridge at Brookdale in Portland, Texas, where she lived.
Dorothy Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Roach and Dorothy Arthur, her sister, Mary Ann Pate, and her husband, Corky.
She is survived by her sister, Joyce Pfeil, her three sons, Bill (Lisa) Mayo from Manchaca, Texas, Bob Mayo from Comfort, Texas, and Tom (Teri) Mayo of Taft, Texas. “Mimi” is also survived by her grandchildren, who were the delight of her life, Heather (Javi) Mayo, Alexandria (Kyle) Kendrick, Walter Mayo, Travis Mayo, Hannah (John) Mayo, Abby (Scott) Mayo, Faith Mayo, Michael (Abbie) Mayo, Matt (Robyn) Mayo, and Maggi (Chris) Hanner. She was blessed with 14 Great- Grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. Family was so important to her, she was truly blessed.
Visitation will begin Friday, May 20, 2022, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Sinton. The Funeral Service will be celebrated Saturday, May 21, 2022, 2:00 PM at Grace Point Church in Portland. Burial will follow in Lamas Memorial Park Cemetery, Taft.
