Taft- Enrique Reyes Garcia aka “Ricky G.” passed away peacefully May 17,2025. He was 81.
Enrique Reyes Garcia, 81, of Taft, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 17,2025. He was born on September 2, 1943, to Francisca (Reyes) and Domingo Garcia Sr.
He is survived and missed by his sons: Henry A. Garcia (Marissa) from RoundRock, Texas and Jerry Anthony Guajardo (Lisa) from South Carolina; daughter: Jo Renee “Jodi” Garza (Carlos R.) from Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren: D’Alberto Christián, Anissa Frances, Ava Marie, Henry Aaron II, Mateo Michael, Aiden Noel, Felicia Renee (William), Lydia Grace, Vivian Nicole and Julia Simone; brothers: Silvestre Garcia (Alicia) and Jose Guadalupe Garcia (Zulema), all from Taft, Texas; sister: Tommie Garcia Dominguez from Taft, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
He is preceded in death by his daughter: Candy Garcia; parents: Domingo and Francisca Reyes Garcia; brothers: Rodolfo “Rudy” Garcia and Domingo Garcia, Jr., and brother-in-law Raul Dominquez.
A lifelong resident of Taft, he was well known in the community and music industry as “Ricky G”. He was a 1964 graduate of Taft High School. Ricky started his musical career in high school with a group called The Four Royals. In 1960 he began his own band called, Ricky and The Rhythm Rockers. In 1961, he changed the name to Ricky G and The Dreamglows. In 2008, he was inducted to the Tejano R.O.O.T.S Hall of Fame.
Ricky was a Veteran of the Unites States Army. After high school, he joined the United States Army, and proudly served 2 years. After being honorably discharged, Ricky continued his music career, and worked as a local barber. He was also a baseball fanatic. He loved to organize the Annual Old Timer baseball tournaments. He loved all Taft Greyhound sports and supported all local teams. He was an animal lover and enjoyed fishing. Most importantly he loved his Catholic faith.
Whether you knew him your whole life or just met him, chances are he made you smile – most likely serenading you with a song. His warmth, charisma and music touched countless hearts. Ricky was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, musician, and patriot and he will be missed greatly. Ricky’s legacy of kindness, laughter, music, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. “Dale Shine”
Public visitation will begin Thursday, June 5, 2025, 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, Taft. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be the same morning, 11:00 AM at the church followed by the celebration of the Funeral Mass, 12:30 PM. A Graveside Service will follow, 2:00 PM at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, Corpus Christi, Texas.
