Eusebio “Chevo” Galvan Cano answered his “Call to Duty” in Heaven on May 8, 2026, at the age of 77.

He was born in Odem, Texas on August 14, 1948, to Julian Rangel Cano and Juana Galvan. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents- Felipe Cano, Petra Cordova, and Rosa Galvan, and granddaughter- Julianna Felice Cuellar.

Eusebio graduated from Odem HS in 1968 and was immediately drafted into military service during the Vietnam War. He completed his Basic Combat Training at Ft. Bliss, Tx and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. He was then assigned to a 17-month tour in Germany. While in Germany, his name came up on a 4,000-troop replacement for duty in the country of Vietnam.  

He served as a Convoy Mechanic with the 670th Heavy Transport Co during a troop withdrawal, then was reassigned to the 117th Helicopter Assault Company at the Plantation Assault Airfield. He was assigned to Door Gunner and Crew Chief duties, where he also participated in Secret Aerial Missions in the country of Cambodia.

Eusebio earned his Combat Air Wings after 75 combat missions along with 3 Air Medal Awards, an Army Commendation, Good Conduct Award, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and numerous other military citations and awards throughout his service to his country.

He was discharged from active service in July 1971. He served for 6 years in the US Army Reserves until he was Honorably Discharged in September 1976. He later enlisted into the Texas State Guard. He achieved the rank of First Sgt and retired after 24 years of state service.

After marriage, Eusebio continued to make his home in Odem, where he devoted himself to raising his two sons and two daughters. For as long as he lived, he moved every mountain within his reach for them. Whenever he saw a need in their lives, he did everything in his power to meet it. His children were his greatest pride.

Eusebio was a remarkable citizen of Odem. At the age of 15 years old, he helped build the Sacred Heart Church of Odem. He served on the City Council of Odem for 11 years, and as a Municipal Judge for 9 years. He was an avid fan and supporter of the Odem Owls. Eusebio initiated the Veterans Appreciation Luncheon in November 1971, to honor all living and deceased veterans of the Odem-Edroy area. He worked tirelessly on growing this program through present date.

He was employed at the CC Army Depot and traveled to many different military installations and abroad to service and repair military aircrafts. He retired after 30 years of dedicated federal service.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his sons, Eusebio Cano, Jr of Corpus Christi, Texas and Javier Cano, of Sinton, Texas; his daughters, Maricella (Michael) Pompa, of Odem, Texas and Leticia Cuellar, of Bulverde, Texas; his grandchildren, Johnathan Cano, Julian Cano, Gabriella Cano, Sammy Cano, Mariela Cuellar, Megan Cano, Michael Pompa, Jr., and Erika Pompa; his Mom: Mary Cano of Seattle, Washington; and his sisters: Epie (Randy) Tucker of Dayton, Texas, Anita (Zaragosa) Guerrero, of Hockley, Texas, Julie Garcia of Odem, Texas, Sindy (Bill) Gray of Maple Falls, Washington, Tammy (Glenn) Frederick and Debra Kirby-Lovre of Seattle, Washington, and Jody Cobb of East Helena, Montana. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Johnathan Cano, Julian Cano, Sammy Cano, Michael Pompa, Jr; and nephews: Elbert Ocanas Jr (US Army), Ernest Garza (US Navy), and Albert Gonzales, Jr.

He will be deeply missed by his family and close friends for the love, humility, and unselfish service that he demonstrated throughout his lifetime.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM that evening. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Odem. Rite of Committal with Military Honors will follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 am.
