Odem – Fortino “Tino” G. Ortiz, a beloved husband, Father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, in Baytown, Texas.  Born on September 6, 1944, in Edroy, Texas.  He was a resident of Baytown, Texas for 49 years. Tino was a proud Texan who made a significant impact on those around him through his dedication and kindness. A proud U.S. Army Veteran, Tino served from 1965 to 1971 during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged.  Following his military service, he worked as an estimator for Triple B Corporation, where he was mentored by the founder, Mr. James Baker.  This guidance inspired Tino to establish Ortiz Brothers Insulation in 1980.  After 18 successful years, he transitioned to a role as a Sales Broker for construction and oilfield equipment until his retirement. Tino was deeply committed to his community and regularly donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of his late sister, Mary Lou, who passed away from Leukemia at a young age. He lived a healthy lifestyle, enjoyed daily walks and cherished trips to the casino with his family. Known for his quiet demeanor and stern presence, Tino had a knack for offering insightful advice and was always there to lend a listening ear.  He loved sharing a good joke and valued the time spent with his loved ones. Tino’s legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the memories cherished by his family and friends.  He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for his strength, generosity, and the love he shared with those around him.

Preceding him in death are his beloved wife: Maria Magdalena Rodriguez Ortiz; parents: Ventura and Margarita Ortiz; siblings: Gilberto, Pauline Morales, Jesus, Elena, Demecio, Anselmo, Lupe Nino, Dora Alvarez and Mary Lou. 

Survivors include his sons: Robert Lee Ortiz (Sabrina Rodriguez) from Channelview, Texas and Robert Pickett (Evonne) from Beeville, Texas; daughters: Alicia Martinez from Odem, Texas and Tina Harris (Eric) from Crosby, Texas; 4 granddaughters: Elizabeth Freeman, Gabriella Ortiz, Samantha Ortiz and Isabella Ortiz; great granddaughter: Alison Pham.

Visitation will begin Thursday, August 22, 2024, 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held the same evening, 7:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 23, 10:30 AM, Sacred Heart Church, Odem. Burial will follow in San Pedro Cemetery, Odem.
