Francisca Navarro Gamez Obituary
Francisca Navarro Gamez, age 99, passed away peacefully in the house she and her beloved husband built together in Taft,Texas on Thursday, September 24, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Francisca was born on January 11, 1927 in Peotillos, San Luis Potosí, Mexico and moved to Taft, Texas as a newlywed at age nineteen in February 1946.
Francisca became a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church and worked tirelessly for the parish. She was a member of the Altar Society and collected contributions for a new altar when the church was just being built under Father Jose Alvarado. As an expectant mother, she walked far to encourage students walking home from school to attend Catechism Class.
She quickly adapted to a new country with a different culture, food and language. She attended classes to become a US citizen which she proudly aced. She learned how to drive a Model T with a stick shift.
Francisca was a prayer warrior who demonstrated unselfish, generous, and unconditional love for her family. She was an extraordinary mother, a friend and confidant. She recited the Rosary daily, prayers from devotional books, the Bible (especially Psalms) and watched religious documentaries of the lives of saints. She was always willing to help and contribute to countless charities and missions.
Francisca enjoyed tending to her garden, crocheting for her family, and sewing. She always welcomed everyone with the delicious food she cooked for anyone who came into her home. She often assisted her carpenter husband with sanding, staining, varnishing, and painting.
She had a humble and sweet disposition. Her evening fervent prayer was for her children, grandchildren, friends, relatives and always for the Souls in purgatory. She never failed to ask if we were hungry, even with her last breath. She will be remembered for the countless traditional meals she prepared to welcome family and friends.
We are thankful for the many blessings she gave us making the sign of the cross at the doorway of her home, including blessing our vehicles with Holy Water as she waved good bye.
Francisca is preceded in death by her devoted husband Gregorio, married 77 years and her parents, Castulo Navarro and Marcelina Garcia.
She is also survived by her nine children: Rosa Maria Gamez (Dennis Mouchette) from Austin, Texas; Isaac Gamez from Kennewick, Washington; Vicenta Johnson (Curt, dec) from Grand Blanc, Michigan; Jaime Gamez (Maria Elena, dec) from Taft, Texas; Eulalio Gamez (Leticia) from Taft, Texas; Elena Balderas (Robert) from South Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Flora Grateron from Tucson, Arizona; Luz Mommaerts (Daniel) from Cudahy, Wisconsin; and Gerardo Gamez (Laura) from San Antonio, Texas; as well as 22 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 4 pm for the family and 5-9 pm for the public at Resthaven Funeral Home at 606 S. San Patricio in Sinton, Texas with recitation of the rosary starting at 7 pm.
