Francisco B. Cantu, Sr. passed away peacefully June 6, 2025 with his family at his side. He was 77.

Frank was born January 29, 1948 in Sinton, Texas to Micaela and Hilario Cantu. He was a lifelong resident of Odem. Frank was a proud husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and veteran. He was enlisted in the US Army during the Vietnam era having served one tour in Vietnam. Frank was a patient man. He was the one his friends looked up to for always having their best interest at heart. Frank was a dedicated member of Sacred Heart Church in Odem for many years. He was a lector, an usher, worked Jamaicas and worked bingos for more than 25 years. Frank was also a member of the building committee during the construction of the church’s parish hall and CCD buildings. He loved fishing, farming, animals, the outdoors and working in his garden that included more than 130 trees. Frank also enjoyed leisure travel as well as playing keno at his beloved “maquintas.”  He will forever be missed by everyone who knew him.

Preceding him in death are his parents: Hilario and Micaela Cantu; brothers: Frank T. Cantu, Ramon Cantu and David Cantu; and sister: Petra Hernandez.

Survivors include his wife: Georgia Cantu from Odem, Texas; a son: Frank Cantu, Jr. (Delma); daughters: Michelle Villarreal (Jerry); Melissa Villarreal (Sammy); Sonya Cantu Alcala; Emelda Cantu Saenz (Roel Benitez), all from Odem, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; step-children: Veronica Villarreal (Robert) from Pasadena, Texas and Denise Lopez from Houston, Texas; brothers: Elogio Cantu from Sinton, Texas; Sabino Cantu (Maria Elena) from Lubbock, Texas; Juan Oscar Cantu (Terry) from George West, Texas; sisters: Dominga Rombs from Portland, Texas; Oralia Garza from Odem, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 9, 2025, 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be the same evening, 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 10, 2025, 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Church, Odem with Father Pete Elizardo as celebrant. Burial will follow in San Pedro Cemetery, Odem.

Pallbearers will be Roel Benitez, Matthew Cantu, Andrew Cantu, Joseph Villarreal, Johnny Joe Cantu and Sammy Villarreal.
