Hilliard Terry Lee, known to most as Terry, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was 86 years old.
Terry came into this world in a story appropriate for the man he would become — born in a jailhouse in Columbus, Texas, while his father, Harvey Lee, served as Sheriff of Colorado County. It was just the kind of start you'd expect for a man who would spend his life dedicated to law enforcement.
He served his country in the United States Army before beginning a distinguished career in law enforcement as a police officer in 1969. In 1978, after learning to fly in the private sector, he was promoted to the position of Pilot Investigator with the DPS in Corpus Christi, Texas, blending two of his great loves…justice and flying. He retired in 1995. Terry was also a proud commissioned Special Texas Ranger, an honor he wore with pride.
Terry was a devoted Christian who loved God and found comfort in reading his Bible. As a Mason and member of the Flying Fez Order of Shriners, he was a man who took both his faith and his friendships seriously. He had a great sense of humor and a habit of stopping to talk with just about anyone he came across, whether he knew them or not. Earlier in life, Terry enjoyed time with family and friends on the lake boating and skiing, as well as hunting trips, especially to Colorado with friends. He also enjoyed long rides on his motorcycle with his wife, Barbara, holding on behind him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Duncan Lee, who passed in 2019; and his daughter, Karen Denise Lee, born November 23, 1965, who survived only a few precious days.
Terry is survived by his son, Terry Alan Lee, and wife Vicki Lee; their children Kandace and Karabeth; his daughter, Sheli Lee-Fierstine, and husband Kory Fierstine; and their children Charlie and Kory Jr.
A private ceremony will be held for the family.
Terry Lee lived his life with God, with humor, with purpose and always with love for his family, his pride and joy. He will be deeply missed and long remembered.
