Hazel Lynn Tijerina Obituary
Hazel Lynn Tijerina, 44, of Gregory, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Hazel was born on March 15, 1982, in Taft, Texas, to Santiago and Silvia (Montes) Tijerina. She was a beautiful soul whose strength, love, and presence touched everyone who knew her. Hazel worked as a Respiratory Therapist and took great pride in caring for others. She was a hardworking woman and a devoted provider who always made sure her family was taken care of.
Hazel had a love for music that brought her peace and comfort. She was outspoken, strong-willed, intelligent, and never afraid to speak her mind. Her beauty radiated from both inside and out, and her smile and spirit were unforgettable to those who loved her.
Above all, Hazel’s greatest joy in life was her family. She loved deeply and fiercely, and there was nothing she would not do for the people she loved. She cherished every moment spent with her children, granddaughter, husband, siblings, and loved ones. The love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved children, Aaron Castillo and Markos Mendez; her precious grandson, Kaleb Castillo; and her parents, Santiago and Silvia Tijerina.
Hazel leaves behind her loving husband of 28 years, John Mendez of Gregory, Texas; her sons, John “Mikey” Mendez of San Marcos, Texas, and Joel Mendez of Lubbock, Texas; her daughters, Daisy Castillo (Nathan) and Penelope “Penny” Mendez, both of Gregory, Texas; her cherished granddaughter, Karianna Guerrero of Gregory, Texas; her brother, Amando Montes of Taft, Texas; and her sisters, Teresa Garcia (Florencio Gonzalez) of Portland, Texas, and Cris Luera (Robert) of Taft, Texas, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Sinton, Texas. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Though Hazel’s time here was far too short, the love, strength, and memories she leaves behind will remain forever. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
