James Calvin Ethridge, Jr., 77, of Mathis, Texas, passed away on September 27, 2026.

James was born on November 21, 1948, in Kerrville, Texas, to Odessa (Aldridge) Ethridge and James Calvin Ethridge, Sr. From an early age, James learned the value of family, hard work, and appreciating the simple things in life—values he carried with him throughout his years.

To know James was to know how deeply he loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a loyal friend. For the past 23 years, he shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Paula. He adored her and treasured the life they built together. His children and grandchildren brought him tremendous joy, and he took great pride in watching his family grow.

James was a man who found happiness in the things that mattered most. He enjoyed raising cattle and horses and spending time outdoors. Fishing was another favorite pastime, giving him the opportunity to slow down, enjoy the outdoors, and make memories. Whether he was working with his animals, spending time with family, or simply enjoying a quiet day, James had a way of finding contentment in life's everyday moments.

He will be remembered for his loving heart, his compassion, his strong devotion to his family, and the many memories he created with those he loved. The lessons he shared, the stories he told, the time spent together, and the love he gave so freely will remain with his family for generations to come.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Calvin Ethridge, Sr. and Odessa Ethridge; and his siblings, Jerry Ethridge and Georgia Ethridge.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 23 years, Paula Ethridge of Mathis, Texas; his sons, Justin Ethridge (Carol) of Aransas Pass, Texas, and Matthew Padier (Lacey) of Victoria, Texas; his daughters, Brandi Allen (Larry) of Bandera, Texas, Nicole Martinez of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Lacy Ethridge of Beeville, Texas; ten grandchildren; and his sister, Katy Groda (Vernon) of Beeville, Texas.

Though James is no longer with his family in person, the love he gave them will never leave. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will carry his love with them in all the days ahead. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
