Papalote – James Worth “Jim” Gary passed away June 9, 2024. He was 83. Jim was born in Austin, Texas to Ruth (Champion) and Willard J. Gary on October 18, 1940. He grew up in Brownwood Tx where he graduated high school. Jim started at TCU after graduation and decided to join the Army. He served in Vietnam 1964-1966 with the 101st Airborne Division. After his service Jim went back to complete his studies at TCU where he majored in accounting and finance. He moved to Odessa where he settled and raised his two children, Shawn and Eden, eventually meeting his wife Darla "Rusty" Winton. Jim was a small business owner and a tire salesman, with a gift of gab. He never met a stranger. They moved to Tennessee where he continued in tire sales until his retirement. He was a million-dollar salesman for the last 3 years of his career. They returned to Texas, settling in Papalote in the summer of 2015, where 2 of their daughters live. Jim was an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He loved dancing, socializing with family and friends. Jim enjoyed cooking and eating anything that was cooked on a BBQ pit.
Survivors include his wife: Darla “Rusty” Gary from Papalote, Texas; sons: Shawn Gary (Ginny) from Rockhill, South Carolina and Victor Morsbach (Michelle) from Katy, Texas; daughters: Eden Ross (Rod) from Charlotte, North Carolina, Lynne Gentry (Dan) and Lucy Hull (Frank), both from Papalote, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 11 ½ great-grandchildren; brother: Danny Gary (Rhonne) from Amarillo, Texas; nephews: Cody Gary (Katherine) from Lucas, Texas and Shane Stewart from Snyder, Texas.
Burial will be private.
