Jesus Sandoval Olivo, also known as “Chuy,” 79, of Taft, Texas died peacefully Sunday May 24th surrounded by his family.

Born in 1947, he graduated from Taft High School in 1966 and was married to Gloria H. Olivo for 58 years.  He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Chuy was born in Taft, Texas to Felipe Olivo and Rosa Sandoval Olivo. He served in Vietnam as a member of the US Army and worked at the Corpus Christi Army Depot for 20 years.  He lived each day for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, traveling great distances to attend every one of their sporting events. He was an avid supporter of the Taft Greyhounds, Beeville Trojans, Gregory-Portland Wildcats, Moody Trojans, Veterans Memorial Eagles, Sinton Pirates, TAMIU Baseball and St. Edward’s University Baseball. His greatest joy in life was supporting his grandchildren and he was equally fond of celebrating life’s moments surrounded by his extensive family which includes one loving spouse, five children, fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.  

Survivors include his spouse, Gloria H. Olivo; his children and their spouses Scott Olivo from Portland; Pete Lopez (Chula) from Taft;, Jaclyn Olivo from Portland, Steven Olivo (Leilani) from Taft, Jamie Gonzales(Ruben) from Taft, Peter Olivo (Mikela) from San Antonio; his grandchildren Samantha Caballero, Jeremy Olivo, Summer Cantu, Jesyca Cantu, Scotty Olivo Jr, Jamin Olivo, Gabryela Rivera, Madelyn Zamorano, Jayden Olivo, Elias Rivera, Samari Davis, Marco Gonzales, Micah Gonzales, Camilla Olivo and Mateo Olivo; his siblings Janie Robles from Corpus Christi, Herminia Perales from Corpus Christi, Manuel Olivo (Mary Lou) from Taft and his brothers-in-law Homer Casas from Taft and Elias Casas, Jr. (Brenda) from Charlotte, NC.

Preceding in death are his parents, Felipe Olivo and Rosa Sandoval Olivo; and siblings Robert Olivo and Carmen Martinez. May he always remain forever in our hearts. 

Pallbearers will be grandsons Jeremy Olivo, Scotty Olivo, Jr, Jamin Olivo, Elias Rivera, Marco Gonzales and Micah Gonzales. Honorary Pallbearer will be Jaymis Olivo.

The Olivo family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Kimberly Buggs, the ICU staff at CCMC and Altus Hospice Care for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Jesus during his final days.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 1st at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton, TX. The family will received guests beginning at 6pm. A Prayer Funeral Service will be held the same evening, 7:00pm at the funeral home.

The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, June 2nd beginning at 12pm at the funeral home.  A Graveside Service will follow, 2pm at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi.
