Sinton – Billie Joe Hernandez “Jose P. Hernandez” passed away on May 23, 2024, at the age of 88.

He was born in Victoria, Texas on August 15, 1935 to Clemencia (Perez) and Pedro Hernandez. Jose was a lifelong resident of Sinton, Texas. He worked as a farmer for Woodrow Hart Farms. Jose was very involved with the church, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Sacred Heart Club and a Crusillista. Jose was known for the boots he wore.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Jose is preceded in death by his son: Joe Hernandez; daughter: Elda Hernandez; parents: Pedro and Clemencia Hernandez; stepmom: Ramona Hernandez; brothers: Guillermo Hernandez and Julian Hernandez; sister: Maria Ruiz.

Survivors include his loving wife: Elida E. Hernandez from Sinton, Texas: sons: Gilbert E. Hernandez from San Patricio, Texas and Ruben E. Hernandez from Galveston, Texas; daughter: Hilda H. Puga (Carlos) from Calallen, Texas; 7 grandchildren; Billie Joe Hernandez (Sara), Amanda Aguilar (Peter), Tracy Martinez (Rene), Bobby Joe Hernandez (Cristina), Ashley Hernandez (Anthony), Britney Montelongo (Anthony) and Yvonne Puga; 13 great-grandchildren: Destiny, Billie, Brandon, Nicholas, D’Andrea, Haelie, Alyssa, Hendrina, Keygan, Brayden, Sophia, Ian and Alina; sisters: Lupe Granado from Victoria, Texas and Anita Garcia from San Antonio, Texas.

Visitation will begin Tuesday, May 28, 2024, 5:00 PM- 9:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be the same evening, 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 29, 2024, 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Odem. Interment will follow in San Pedro Cemetery, Odem.
