Jose Luis “Joe” Alvarez passed away December 8, 2024. He was 56.

Joe was born July 2, 1968 in Taft, Texas to Rosa (Lopez) and Gil R. Alvarez, Sr. He was a resident of Taft all of his life. Joe graduated from Taft High School and was a volunteer Firefighter for the city of Taft. He married the love of his life, Gracie Sanchez. They were married 30 years. Joe was formerly employed as a truck driver, and most recently was employed as a Heavy Equipment operator. Joe was a friend to all. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Preceding in death are a sister: Rosario Alvarez; niece: Olivia Renee Lozano; maternal grandparents: Pablo and Juanita Lopez; paternal grandparents: Trinidad and Elena Alvarez; father-in-law: Jose P. Sanchez.

Survivors include his loving wife: Gracie Sanchez Alvarez; his sons: Matthew Lee and Pablo Jose Alvarez, all from Taft, Texas; parents: Gil and Rosa Alvarez, Sr.; brother: Gil Alvarez, Jr. (Trisha) from Sinton, Texas; sisters: Norma Alvarez Gonzales (Jesse) from Beeville, Texas; Deborah Olivarez (Gilbert) from Taft, Texas; mother-in-law: Rachel Rocha Sanchez from Benavides, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2024, 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held the same evening, 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, December 12, 2024, 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church in Taft. Burial will follow in Palms Memorial Gardens, Portland.
