Joy Gail Miller Obituary
Joy Gail Torno Miller, 76, of Papalote, Texas was peacefully called home to our Lord on April 22, 2025 surrounded by family. She was a cherished wife, a devoted mother, and a loving grandmother affectionally known as Nana Joy.
Joy was born in Sinton, Texas to Glen and Christine Torno. She married Warren Miller in 1968 and they remained devoted to one another for 56 years. During their marriage they lived in Kingsville, Texas, Tampa, Florida, San Antonio, Texas and Nacogdoches, Texas. In 2000, they returned to their roots and settled in Papalote, Texas. Here they rejoined the congregation at Borden Street Church of Christ. Wherever she was, her warmth, kindness, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew her.
Joy graduated from high school in Sinton, Texas. Later she earned a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Before retiring, she positively impacted the lives of many students teaching them life skills as a Special Education teacher in Oakwood, Texas, Wells, Texas and Calallen, Texas.
She had many hobbies including crafting, playing games, watching DIY television shows and completing jigsaw puzzles. But hands down her favorite hobbies were cooking and hospitality. She had a true passion for bringing people together over good food and great conversations. One thing for certain was you would never leave her house hungry.
Joy loved to travel domestically and internationally. She visited all 48 contiguous states and Alaska, most of Canada, several European countries, all the Scandinavian countries, and Russia. She also loved to spend free time at Lake Superior, Table Rock Lake and Lake Buchanan.
Joy’s love and devotion extended deeply to her family. She is survived by her husband Warren Miller; son Keith Miller (Abby); granddaughter Zoe Wampol (Calvin); brothers Ray Torno and Tim Torno (Dorthy) Torno; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Glen and Christine Torno, sister Kay Torno and brother Don Torno.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 16th, 2025 at the Borden Street Church of Christ located at 301 W. Borden St. in Sinton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or online at https://www.stjude.org/donate.
While our hearts are heavy, we are comforted to know that she is in a much better place, free from physical pain and at peace surrounded by everlasting love.
