Taft - Juan L. Cruz passed away on September 3, 2026 at his home in Taft, Texas leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love that will continue through the generations. His family was at his bedside. Juan was 77 years old.

Juan was born on July 12, 1949 in Taft, Texas to Berta (Luera) and Tomas Cruz. Juan lived most of his life in Taft where he built his home, raised his family and created countless memories with the people he loved.

Juan was a Welder by trade and took great pride in his work. Most recently, he served as a Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Portland. He was a hardworking and dedicated provider who believed in taking care of his family and doing whatever was needed for those he loved.

Above all, Juan was a family man. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and, most recently, a proud great-grandfather. He treasured time spent surrounded by family and friends and never needed a special occasion to enjoy a good get-together. Juan also had a true love for football and could always be counted on to enjoy a good Dallas Cowboys game.

Those who knew Juan will remember his strength, his dedication, his love for his family and the many moments of laughter and togetherness he shared with those around him. His life was defined not only by the work he did, but by the people he loved and the lives he touched. His greatest legacy will be carried on through his children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter and the generations to come.

Juan is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Olivia Cruz; and his parents, Tomas and Berta Cruz.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Juan “JR” Cruz (Marissa) from Portland, Texas and Berta Marcelino (Jeff) from Taft, Texas; grandchildren, Gabby Marcelino, Elizabeth Marcelino, Lacey Cruz and Jeremiah “Trae” Cruz; great-granddaughter, Olivia Rivera; sisters, Angie Cruz and Maria “Lena” Martinez, both from Taft, Texas; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.

Juan’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. Though he is no longer with us, the love he gave, the lessons he taught and the family he helped build will remain his lasting legacy.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2026, 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held the same evening, 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at a later date.
