Juan Silvestre “Silver” Castillo Sr. passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026. He was 78.

Silver Sr. was born on June 24, 1947 to Jesus and Ignacia Castillo in Sinton, Texas. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He married the love of his life, Mary Lou Lopez on July 6, 1963. Together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter and dedication to their family.

Silver Sr. was an excellent carpenter who worked hard throughout his life to ensure his five children always had a home and were cared for. He was the kind of man his children and grandchildren could always depend on whenever they needed him. Known by many as “Silver,” he was lovingly known as “Pop” to his five children and “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, watching his favorite cowboy movies and spending mornings with his beloved morning “coffee club.” Those closest to him will always remember his quiet strength, his hardworking spirit and the deep love he had for his family.

Preceding in death are his beloved wife, Mary Lou Castillo; his parents, Jesus and Ignacia Castillo; infant son, Bruce Castillo; grandson, Augustine Alfredo Rendon; and brother, Ernest “Tito” Castillo.

Silver Sr. is survived by his three sons, Silvestre Castillo Jr., Bryan (Anna) Castillo, and Justin (Denise) Castillo; and his two daughters, Leolanda (Alfredo) Rendon and Eloisa (Rusty) Villarreal.

He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Ashley Castillo, Anastasia (Joshua) Sanchez, Sarah Castillo, Bryan Kaleb Castillo, Tristin Castillo, Lindsey Castillo, Caitlin Castillo, Isaac (Ana) Rendon, Reno Rendon, Felicia Rendon, Dwayne (Apple) Rodriguez, Dallas (Elisa) Rodriguez, and Ryan (Christina) Rodriguez; along with 24 great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy. Survivors also include his brother, George (Gloria) Castillo; and sisters, Delia (Joe) Moreno and Errlinda Castillo (Art Chavarria)
