Taft - Juliana Hinojosa Sturgeon, 94, of Taft, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024.

Mrs. Sturgeon was born in Taft, Texas on April 8, 1930 to Julian and Nicolasa (Hernandez) Hinojosa, and was married to Ulmer Sturgeon, Sr. She was a lifelong resident of Taft where she was a wonderful wife and mother who worked diligently by her husband’s side. In her younger days, Juliana and her sister, Juanita, sang together at various events as well as on the radio, as the “Hermanitas Hinojosa”. Juliana enjoyed singing her entire life. She entertained her family with her beautiful voice and playful personality.

Juliana was preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Nicolasa Hinojosa; her husband, Ulmer Sturgeon, Sr.; her sons, David and Robert Sturgeon; her sister, Rosita Rodriguez; her son-in-law, Carlos B. Guerrero; and her daughter-in-law, Tila Sturgeon.

Juliana is survived by her children: Ulmer Sturgeon, Jr., Bill Sturgeon, Nicky Guerrero, all of Taft, and Rudy (Tessie) Sturgeon, of Portland; her daughter-in-law, Rosie Sturgeon, of Taft; her sister, Juanita Salazar, of Taft; her brother, Julian Hinojosa (Mary Lou) of Taft; 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Carla Guerrero and Oralia Flores, as well as the staff of Harbor Hospice Inpatient Unit in Portland, for their special care and support for our mother.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home in Sinton. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church in Taft at 10:00 A.M., and interment will follow at The Palms Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ulmer Sturgeon, III, Eric Sturgeon, Alex Castaneda, Robert Sturgeon, Jr., David Sturgeon, Mike Sturgeon, William Sturgeon, Darryl Sturgeon, Gabriel Guerrero, Robbie Guerrero, Russell Sturgeon, and Ryan Sturgeon.
